West Virginia, North Carolina Set for Saturday Night Showdown

After opening the NCAA College World Series with tight elimination games, No. 16 West Virginia will face No. 5 North Carolina at 7 p.m. Friday’s schedule closes with more elimination rounds leading into a best-of-3 championship series on June 20 and June 21.

Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska is set for another swing of the NCAA College World Series bracket, with Saturday already shaping up as a hinge point in the double-elimination format.

On Friday, June 12, No. 16 West Virginia opened with a 7–5 win over Troy in Game 1. No. 5 North Carolina followed in Game 2, defeating Ole Miss 6–2.

Saturday, June 13 brought heavy results. Oklahoma routed No. 7 Alabama 9–0 in Game 3, then No. 3 Georgia answered with a 7–1 win over No. 6 Texas in Game 4.

Sunday, June 14 continued the churn. Troy beat Ole Miss 12–8 in Game 5, setting up the next headliners: Game 6 on Friday, June 16 at 7 p.m. features No. 16 West Virginia versus No. 5 North Carolina.

Monday, June 15 sharpens the pressure with Game 7, matching No. 7 Alabama against No. 6 Texas at 2 p.m., while Game 8 on Monday night brings Oklahoma against No. 3 Georgia at 7 p.m.

The bracket keeps moving through elimination games. Tuesday, June 16 includes Game 9 at 2 p.m., where the Game 6 loser plays Troy. Game 10 follows at 8 p.m., pitting the Game 8 loser against the Game 7 winner.

On Wednesday, June 17, Game 11 has the Game 6 winner take on the Game 9 winner at 2 p.m. Game 12 then sets the stage for another winner-takes-forward matchup on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., with the Game 8 winner facing the Game 10 winner.

Thursday, June 18 is scheduled for two further games with times to be determined: x-Game 13, with the Game 6 winner versus the Game 9 winner, TBA; and x-Game 14, with the Game 8 winner versus the Game 10 winner, also TBA.

The championship series follows as a best-of-3 set. Saturday, June 20 is listed at 8 p.m., Sunday, June 21 at 2:30 p.m., and x-Monday, June 22 at 7 p.m., with pairings TBA for each date.

The schedule now reads like a countdown to which teams can survive the bracket’s early swings and still have something left when the best-of-3 title round arrives.

  1. I don’t get how this bracket works lol. Like one loss and you’re done but then it’s still “double elimination”?? Either way WV better not mess around.

  2. Wait, I thought the whole College World Series was already over by now. Doesn’t it usually start sooner? Also Troy beat Ole Miss and then somehow they’re back in the mix? Sounds rigged or maybe I’m just confused.

  3. North Carolina vs West Virginia Saturday?? That’s gonna be wild. But why are there so many games like 6,7,8,9… I feel like they’re just stacking random matchups to fill time. If Oklahoma got that 9-0 win they should’ve already clinched something. And the best-of-3 June 20/21/22 is weird too, like why not just play it all on the same day?
