Wendy’s eyes Wemby’s menu shift after Game 1 explosion

Wendy’s eyes – After Victor Wembanyama’s 41-point, 24-rebound, 3-block Game 1 against the Thunder, Wendy’s joked it could rename itself “Wemby’s” and “only serve french fries,” sparking fans—while raising questions about what happens to the chain’s Frosty and signature fun.
For a day, it wasn’t just the Western Conference finals that had fans talking—it was Wendy’s.
On Monday, May 18, Victor Wembanyama put on a show for the San Antonio Spurs in a 122-115 double-overtime win over the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder. He finished with 41 points, 24 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Then the fast-food chain jumped into the moment.
On Tuesday, May 19, Wendy’s posted on X that it wanted to salute Wembanyama with a name change and a major menu revamp to honor his French heritage. The chain said: “might change my name to Wemby’s and only serve french fries after last night’s game.”
Wendy’s didn’t stop at the idea—it leaned into the joke exchange style it’s known for online. When fans reacted in the comments, one user named Peanut asked what would happen to the restaurant’s signature Frosty dessert.
Wendy’s also pushed back with its own punchline after a separate user reference. The account responded: “Sir this is a Wembys.”
That Frosty question matters because Wendy’s has already tied itself to big basketball moments in a way fans recognize. For the men’s NCAA basketball championship. the chain gave away free Frostys and french fries for a day after Michigan’s Roddy Gayle Jr. slammed a dunk in the title game—using food to let fans recreate their own dunk moment.
But in the new “Wemby’s” setup, Wendy’s used a familiar social media joke to suggest that dunking wouldn’t be possible under the imagined name and menu. The chain’s claps and captions centered on the idea that everything would shift—down to what’s served and what people can play around with.
Wembanyama’s performance has been the kind of statistical spark that makes even casual sports talk feel urgent. His postseason run already includes him becoming the youngest player with 40+ points and 20+ boards in the most recent outing. He also set a mark with a record 12 blocks in Game 1 of the conference semifinals.
Now the NBA stage is moving fast again. Game 2 of the Western Conference finals is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20.
