Wembanyama shrugs at MSG noise in Finals Game 3

Wembanyama MSG – As the Spurs face the Knicks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, Victor Wembanyama insisted he’s practiced through the biggest-stage pressure—even with a crowd set to rock for the first Finals game at MSG since 1999.

The Spurs have to walk back into Madison Square Garden with one goal: get their first win in the NBA Finals.

On Monday night, they’ll take the court for Game 3, trailing the Knicks 0-2 in the championship series. The stakes feel immediate. So does the setting. This is the first NBA Finals game at MSG since 1999. and the building is expected to be loud from the opening moments as the red-hot Knicks chase the franchise’s first NBA title since 1973.

Victor Wembanyama knows what pressure looks like up close. In Game 1 and Game 2, he appeared somewhat affected by the weight of playing in his first NBA Finals. But for his first playoff game at MSG. the 7-foot-4 French star sounded steady when asked whether the intensity of the crowd could shake him—or the Spurs.

“Not really. It could be, but isolating myself is something I’ve practiced over the years,” Wembanyama replied. “I think I’m good at it, so it’s not a problem.”

It wasn’t a line aimed at the room so much as a statement about routine—about how he’s handled noise before, and how he expects to handle it again.

Wembanyama’s MSG experience goes beyond the spotlight of the Finals. He made his Madison Square Garden debut as a rookie season No. 1 overall pick in 2024, putting up 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Earlier this year. he returned to MSG for another regular-season matchup. recording 25 points. 13 rebounds and four blocks in a 114-89 loss.

“It’s been very enjoyable playing here,” he said of Madison Square Garden.

The Spurs’ season now hinges on what happens when that familiarity meets the moment. A crowd that hasn’t hosted the Finals in decades will be pressing every possession. and the Knicks are coming in with momentum and history on their mind—trying to secure the franchise’s first NBA title since 1973. If the Spurs are going to flip the series. Game 3 is where they’ll have to prove they can play through both the noise and the urgency.

Game 3 tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET on Monday.

  1. Spurs better stop acting tough. If Knicks crowd is rocking like they say, Wembanyama’s gonna feel it at some point. 0-2 doesn’t care what he “practiced” lol.

  2. Wait so he’s been to MSG already like this year? I thought he was just drafted. Also 1999 Finals at MSG?? feels like it should’ve been more recent. Either way, the Knicks have been in everybody’s head forever.

  3. I don’t buy the whole “I isolate myself” thing, crowds always get to you. Plus Knicks gonna do Knicks stuff, foul a lot or whatever, and then Wemby’s name in the headlines again. Game 3 at 8:30 too like that’s gonna magically help. Spurs need a win, not a quote.
