Weinstein Hospitalized at Rikers After Heart Failure

Harvey Weinstein suffered heart failure in custody at Rikers Island after developing pneumonia, and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan, where he has been receiving treatment since.

Harvey Weinstein’s latest health scare in jail landed him on the move—this time from Rikers Island to a prison hospital ward in Manhattan after he suffered heart failure.

He was incarcerated on Rikers Island in NYC about 2 weeks before the incident, when he experienced heart failure due to pneumonia. He was being held in the Queens jail complex while awaiting sentencing in September for his 2025 sexual assault conviction.

The emergency unfolded when Weinstein was having a hard time breathing. Authorities rushed him to Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan, and he has been receiving treatment at Bellevue ever since.

Doctors placed him on an IV, put him on a heart monitor, and gave him antibiotics to treat his pneumonia. He is now feeling better, but he is not out of the woods just yet.

Behind the headlines is a case that has repeatedly moved through the courts—and through prison health scares. Weinstein became a poster figure for the #MeToo movement after he was convicted in 2020 of rape and a criminal sexual act and received a 23-year sentence.

In 2022, Weinstein was convicted in Los Angeles for rape and sexual assault and was given a 16-year sentence. His New York conviction was overturned in 2024. but he was convicted again of sexual assault in a 2025 retrial. leading to the September sentencing he had been awaiting when this latest incident occurred.
