Wave of Armed Robberies Strikes Namibia

Namibian police have launched investigations into a string of violent armed robberies across the country, targeting tourists, residents, and local businesses.

Staff Reporter NAMIBIAN Police are investigating a series of armed robberies and violent break-ins reported over the weekend in Windhoek, Oshikango and Kamanjab, involving armed suspects who targeted residents, businesses and tourists.. According to the police weekend crime report, in Klein Windhoek, six armed male suspects allegedly attacked a man and his girlfriend while they were sitting in their vehicle at St George’s Mountain between 14:00 and 15:00 on Saturday.. According to police, the suspects,

armed with Okapi knives, demanded the couple’s car keys and cellphone PINs and allegedly attempted to abduct them.. During the struggle, the complainant reportedly sustained scratches and bleeding injuries.. Security personnel approached the scene, causing the suspects to flee.. Police said the suspects abandoned the complainant’s wallet and car keys in nearby bushes before escaping with cash, shoes and mobile phones.. In a separate incident in Kamanjab during the early hours of Sunday morning, two

unidentified male suspects allegedly robbed guests at a lodge at gunpoint.. Police said the suspects demanded a couple’s vehicle before stealing vehicle keys, an iPhone 13, a Canon camera with three lenses, an undisclosed amount of cash and a credit card.. The suspects allegedly also broke into another vehicle’s canopy after damaging a padlock, but only stole food items.. They further targeted another tent where occupants were asleep, stealing a backpack that was later recovered

nearby with only lipsticks remaining inside.. In Oshikango, four armed suspects allegedly robbed a business premises in Hakahana on Saturday.. Police said the suspects scaled the boundary wall, held a security guard at gunpoint and tied him up using his own bootlaces before stealing his personal pistol and a shotgun.. The suspects allegedly cut through the roof of the safe room and stole approximately N$200,000 in cash before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.. The

security guard later managed to free himself and reported the incident to police.. No arrests or recoveries have been made.. Meanwhile, in Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek, suspects allegedly broke into a house on Friday morning.. Police said the suspects held the occupants at gunpoint before stealing electronic devices valued at more than N$100,000.. No arrests have been made and the stolen property has not yet been recovered.. Police investigations into all the incidents are ongoing.
