Warriors look like the real deal in 2026

A strong start has the Warriors talking about ceiling, not qualification, with changes in the backline and power in the pack.

The Warriors’ 2026 start is turning the usual ladder chatter on its head, with the focus shifting from making the top eight to what happens after.

For the first time in a generation, Misryoum says the conversation is less about whether the club gets there and more about how far it can go once it arrives.. With seven wins from nine starts, the Warriors sit level on competition points with the reigning premiers Penrith at the top of the NRL ladder.. And unlike past bursts of momentum, this one is being framed as something that could hold through the season.

The standout on-field shift appears to be in the way Auckland are finishing their sets, starting with Alofiana Khan-Pereira. Misryoum notes the former Gold Coast winger has crossed for doubles in three straight matches, bringing a kind of threat opponents have to plan for.

Meanwhile, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is benefiting from the space created across the opposite edge, and the backline is now producing points through set plays rather than relying on scraps from broken moments. Still, the platform for that polish seems to come first from the forwards.

That balance matters because deep September football is usually decided by who can keep their structure when games get messy. Misryoum frames the Warriors’ early confidence as more than just flair, pointing to a team that looks set to defend leads rather than bleed them.

Jackson Ford has also become a headline by way of output, leading the Dally M standings after performances that combine heavy work with high impact.. Erin Clark has stepped up further as well, while James Fisher-Harris continues to anchor the side’s metres, and co-captain Mitch Barnett is back from the ACL setback that cut his 2025 short.

Barnett’s return comes with a different kind of urgency, especially with Misryoum highlighting that he has confirmed he will leave at the end of the year.. Around them, the bench options Andrew Webster has assembled are being treated as a real upgrade, with players including Morgan Gannon, Jye Linnane, Haizyn Mellars, and Chanel Harris-Tavita adding structure and control.

Composure is the harder thing to measure, but it is also the detail that separates teams when the season turns.. After a home loss to the Wests Tigers and a defeat in Cronulla that could have started a repeat mid-season slide, Misryoum says the Warriors instead strung together four wins in a row, including a 38-14 showing against the Storm.

What makes the ladder position feel credible is the way the Warriors have been able to win outside their comfort zone.. Misryoum says they have taken three of four on the road, with their only loss coming in extra time, while home results show a similar consistency.. That blend of form sets up a different kind of realistic target, including the possibility of a top-four finish and the advantage of a home final if the current trajectory continues.

With the regular season running through early September and the top eight entering a four-week finals series, the next milestone arrives quickly.. The Grand Final is set for Sunday 4 October at Accor Stadium in Sydney, and if the Warriors keep looking like this, Misryoum says opponents may soon have a new problem on their hands.
