Waddingham shuts down Ted Lasso feud rumors

Hannah Waddingham used a since-expired Instagram story on Tuesday, June 2, to deny media speculation that she’s in a feud with Jason Sudeikis, calling the reports “utter bollocks” and “ridiculous, clickbait.”
Hannah Waddingham didn’t wait for the rumors to simmer out. Earlier this week, the Emmy-winning “Ted Lasso” star took to social media and moved quickly to shut down talk of a feud with costar and show creator Jason Sudeikis.
In a since-expired Instagram story posted Tuesday. June 2. Waddingham wrote. “For the first time ever. I am finding it necessary to silence the utter bollocks being written about” the actors’ relationship. according to Entertainment Tonight. Her message landed as the latest round of headlines tried to frame her candid comments about working with Sudeikis as evidence of a rift.
The speculation traces back to remarks Waddingham made in an interview with Variety published May 30. Speaking about production for the show’s upcoming fourth season. she said. “There’s always going to be a bit of give-and-take within a scene. because of the nature of how Sudeikis works. ” and explained that he “hears it in the room. and then we tweak.”.
Waddingham went further, describing the day-to-day creative friction that comes with a fast-moving script process. “With that boy, you’ve got to roll with the punches. He and I have an ongoing love-hate relationship that he changes [the script] last minute,” she said.
On her Instagram story, Waddingham denied that those comments meant there was a problem between them. She called Sudeikis her “beloved. long-standing friend and acting partner. ” and added: “Ridiculous. clickbait.” She followed it with a pointed line aimed at the cycle of coverage around celebrity relationships: “Is it a quiet news day or something?!. Get a life!!!”.
The timing matters because “Ted Lasso” is already ramping up anticipation for Season 4. which is set to be released on Aug. 5. The new season arrives three years after the show’s third season. and it continues a pattern: Season 3 premiered two years after Season 2. Sudeikis previously attributed similar gaps to a lengthy writing process.
In a 2023 interview, Sudeikis said, “There was just so much story to go through,” adding that the show needed time for “so many stories and characters and connections that need to be tied up.”
Apple TV’s plot synopsis for Season 4 says the season will follow Ted Lasso. played by Sudeikis. as he returns to Richmond. England. to coach a women’s soccer team. The series description adds that “throughout the course of the season. Ted and the team learn to leap before they look. taking chances they never thought they would.”.
Waddingham’s Instagram story also carried a clear signal that the season’s drama is not being played for laughs. She teased the mood of what’s coming in a line that paired affection with anticipation. writing that Season 4 “is going to be a doozy. as our mustachioed companion would say. ” according to Entertainment Tonight. She ended with: “See you all up Nelson Road!. Long live AFC Richmond!”.
For fans, the through-line is simple: the relationship Waddingham described publicly as “love-hate” appears to be the kind of creative give-and-take that comes with rewriting in the moment—not something closer to the rumor framing that she moved to stop.

Sounds like she’s mad people are talking. Honestly if she has to post “clickbait” then it probably was true, just sayin.
Variety interview: she said he changes scripts last minute… that sounds like conflict to me. But then she calls it bollocks so idk, maybe both can be true??
The whole “give-and-take” thing feels normal though. Like that’s literally acting? I feel like tabloids pick the worst sentence and run with it. Also “Get a life!!!” is kind of iconic lol.
Wait so she’s shutting down a feud… but she still called him “love-hate” and “changes it last minute.” That’s still basically a feud, right? Maybe not like fighting, but definitely tension. Media will do anything for clicks, I guess.
