VIP World Cup tickets turned a dream into reality

A fan watching Argentina at the World Cup in Miami expected to piece together multiple in-person games, but ticket prices derailed the plan. After discovering hospitality tickets, she bought VIP access—then watched the same tickets later more than double in pr

When the World Cup was announced as being played in the US, Mexico, and Canada, she pictured a simple version of her dream: watch as many games in person as she liked. She was already thinking through the logistics—until ticket prices came out, and the plan collapsed.

She’s from Argentina, and Fútbol isn’t a casual interest. She grew up watching the national team and says she’s watched every single World Cup game. even when tournaments in Asia meant waking up in the middle of the night. She had also seen Argentina in person in friendly games across several countries. In the US, she’d already attended both the Copa América semi-finals and finals in New York.

Still, she kept chasing one specific moment: a World Cup final. She and her dad even debated flying to Qatar for the final of the 2022 World Cup, which Argentina won. They ultimately didn’t go—but she insists attending a final remains a dream of hers.

Then the resale prices arrived to finish the other half of the story. She saw Category 3 tickets—described as the “nosebleed seats”—being resold for over $3,500 for Argentina’s round-of-16 match. It stung harder because it was Messi’s last World Cup. because the match was being played in Miami. and because the opponent was Cape Verde. a team she calls the “sweetheart team that stole everyone’s hearts.”.

She didn’t want to give up, especially not with her father. At 81 years old, he told her they could go together if they could find tickets. He has been to four World Cups, but the two of them had never shared one.

That’s when she looked at hospitality tickets—VIP packages—and decided to try again. She started searching reselling platforms, then checked FIFA’s official site and found hospitality tickets available for purchase at a price lower than Category 3 tickets.

The package details are why she kept going. Hospitality tickets come with a dedicated entrance. access to an air-conditioned lounge. all the food and drinks. midfield seats. and an exclusive gameday souvenir. Some stadiums also provide a dedicated store inside the lounges and parking. She saw different VIP categories as well; for example, for the USA against Belgium match, tickets range from $2,000 to over $8,000. In her mind, the deal looked manageable—“or so I told myself”—and she hit “purchase.”.

Two days later, when it was confirmed that Argentina was playing in Miami, the same hospitality tickets she bought more than doubled in price. The match was still expensive, but the urgency of that moment made the choice feel anchored.

She and her dad arrived at the Miami Hard Rock Stadium early so he could enter at his own pace because he has mobility issues. Once the On Location team—which manages the VIPs—saw her father walk in. they quickly assigned someone to help them navigate the stadium. They were guided straight into the lounge’s door, handed bracelets and souvenir vouchers, and settled in before kick-off.

The lounge itself was structured like a small event. She says there were about 20 food stations. with options ranging from pizza and mac and cheese to serrano ham burgers and grilled fish. Dessert stations included a chocolate fountain. She and her dad ate lunch and had a couple of drinks before moving to their seats about 30 minutes before the game. The seats were described as excellent.

The match turned into a full-body experience. She writes that Argentina’s last-minute win was “unbelievable,” and when they scored, she celebrated with her dad and thousands of other fans. She remembers the seconds when everyone screamed in unison as something she’ll carry for the rest of her life.

After Argentina gave Cape Verde players a standing ovation, they went back to the VIP lounge for dinner. They drank water to hydrate, shopped for commemorative shirts, and picked up a souvenir—three Miami-themed keychains.

Hospitality access mattered again for her father after the final whistle. She says hospitality tickets provide access to the lounge for two hours after the game. which helped him catch his breath and lower his blood pressure. When they left, she says there was no traffic, and they had no issues exiting the stadium. She also credits the staff with being friendly and helpful with her dad “yet again.”.

Buying hospitality tickets was, she admits, a splurge—something she can’t afford to do regularly. But she says she has no regrets, because she will remember that day forever.
