Viktor Gyokeres praises Mbappé after Sweden’s World Cup exit

Viktor Gyokeres praised “incredible player” Kylian Mbappe after his masterclass dumped Sweden out of the FIFA World Cup . Gyokeres saw Mbappe dance past him for a magical first goal before adding the third in a one-sided Round of 32 game at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey. It saw Gyokeres’ season come to a frustrating end after a long domestic season culminating in Premier League glory and a defeat in the Champions League final with Arsenal . Mbappe, who shared an emotional moment with
Didier Deschamps after his first goal, now marches on after his third two-goal showing in three starts in the tournament, with the record-breaking French showing themselves as the team to beat. Asked about the French superstar after the game, Gyokeres said: “He’s an amazing player, of course. “I don’t need to say something to him. I think he knows it and he’s done this for a lot of years now. “He shows it here again, and he’s an incredible player, of course.” Gyokeres was also
full of praise for the France attack, which saw Bradley Barcola score the second goal while Michael Olise impressed with two more assists. Gyokeres added: “They rotate with a lot of players. They come in different positions. They’re not static, know each other well in how they move and the connection between each other. “Of course, when they have that quality and have that movement, it’s going to be tough. “I think we defended well for a while, and then, of course, after a while
it’s difficult to keep it like that for 90 minutes.” The Arsenal striker also broke down what happened for the opening goal, where Mbappe cut inside after a through ball down the inside left channel and got beyond Gyokeres to bend a shot into the bottom corner. He explained, in Swedish (via Aftonbladet): “They play a short corner. We knew that. We’re not quick enough out there. “So he folds in quickly and puts it in the far corner. It was well done (by Mbappe).”

France vs Sweden and Mbappé just casually wrecked them, wow.
Why does it say Sweden’s exit like it was a surprise? Mbappe been doing that for years. Also MetLife is such a random place for soccer.
So Gyokeres is praising Mbappé, but like… Sweden still lost 3-0 right? Not saying he’s wrong, but I don’t get why the article is acting like it was a learning experience.
Arsenal got blamed for everything lately, so I’m not shocked Gyokeres’ season ended like that. If Arsenal were actually fresh, Sweden would’ve held up better… right? And that ‘short corner’ thing sounds like some Madden glitch, he just cut inside and boom.
