Verified GoFundMe nears $190,000 after Knicks-dog shooting

GoFundMe verified – A GoFundMe campaign for Jameson, a two-year-old golden saint berdoodle killed in an LAPD incident on Saturday, has been verified as authentic by GoFundMe and is nearing $190,000, far surpassing its initial $10,000 goal. The fundraising surge follows graphic vi

By the time Marie Marseille opened her apartment door, the night was supposed to be simple.

On Saturday, she was celebrating the New York Knicks’ NBA Finals victory inside her Los Angeles apartment. A concerned neighbor, hearing screaming, called 911. Officers arrived to check on the resident—but a moment meant for safety turned into violence.

In a media release, the LAPD said officers began speaking with Marseille when a large dog was by her side, barking at them. The officers asked her to secure the animal, and Marseille closed her door briefly. She then re-opened it, and the dog exited the apartment.

“The dog charged at one of the officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting,” the statement said. The dog—dressed in a Knicks outfit at the time—was killed during the incident.

A graphic video of Marseille sobbing over the dog’s body has since circulated online. In the footage, Marseille can be heard saying the dog “was not vicious,” including the line: “He’s such a good dog!”

Marseille later spoke to KTLA earlier this week. She said she was “unable to process” why police shot Jameson, describing him as a two-year-old golden saint berdoodle. “There had to have been so many other options . . . so many different ways this issue could have gotten resolved. Because it didn’t have to turn into this, ” Marseille said.

Her son, Jeremiah Garcia, created the GoFundMe campaign to help cover the cost of Jameson’s cremation. The fundraiser’s page asks for support “to get Justice for Jameson and any cremation fees,” and describes the dog as “the sweetest boy in the world.”

What began with a modest target has grown quickly. The campaign’s goal was set at $10,000, but the page has exceeded it. After being created just three days ago, it has reached $189,975 from about 7,500 donations, with some of the top donors giving $1,000 and more.

GoFundMe confirmed to Fast Company that the campaign is verified as authentic.

As the footage continues to spread, pressure has shifted toward how the police response is being reviewed—and what the public should be allowed to see. Activists who say police used unnecessary force are demanding accountability.

On Tuesday, the National Action Network held a news conference on the matter. Najee Ali. senior organizer of the Los Angeles National Action Network. said: “The tragic killing of Jameson was unnecessary and unwarranted. We demand immediate accountability. which can only happen through the prompt release of the body-worn camera footage and the names of the officers responsible for shooting and killing Jameson.

“The public deserves transparency, and the family deserves answers,” Ali added.

On Wednesday night, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell vowed that there would be a “thorough, multilayered examination” of the incident. “There is no incident more serious than when an officer fires a service weapon,” McDonnell said.

  1. I just saw the video going around and like… if he “was not vicious” then why shoot?? Seems like they could’ve used pepper spray or something. Also, GoFundMe getting verified means it’s definitely legit right?

  2. Replying to you but I don’t think it’s that simple. People keep saying the dog “charged” like it’s the dog’s fault but the officer coulda just stayed back? Also I thought LAPD wouldn’t shoot unless the animal was attacking hard? This whole thing makes me sick though, like she’s sobbing and everyone’s like “justice” but what even is justice with cops.

  3. Wait, the Knicks won and then this happened same day?? I feel like there’s more to it. Like why was the dog out when they came to the door? If she wanted it calm she should’ve kept it inside… but then again cops should de-escalate. Crowdfunding is wild too, $10k goal to $190k in no time. I’m not saying she’s lying, just wondering how it started.
