Venmo expands: 106 retailers now accept quick QR payments

106 retailers – Venmo is no longer just for splitting bills with friends. A growing roster of retailers—now up to 106 shops and brands—accept Venmo payments at checkout via QR code, adding major names like Abercrombie, Sephora, and Starbucks.

Walking into a store and paying without digging for cash is becoming the norm, and Venmo is trying to win a bigger share of that contactless moment. Shoppers who use Venmo can scan a Venmo QR code at checkout to pay totally touch-free, and more retailers are jumping on board.

The number of retailers that accept Venmo increased by 82 from the last year, bringing the total to 106. Among the newer additions are Jones Road, Carter’s, and even Sephora—brands many shoppers already associate with fast, on-the-go buying.

Venmo’s appeal goes beyond the in-store scan. If you’re unfamiliar with the app. Venmo lets users easily send and request money from other users. and it now extends that convenience into retail purchases. For those who prefer a physical payment option. users can apply for a Venmo credit card through Visa or a Venmo debit card through Master Card. while still being able to sign up for a free Venmo account.

The growing list of Venmo-friendly stores spans clothing, travel, food, tickets, tech, and online marketplaces. From everyday stops like McDonald’s. Starbucks. and Taco Bell to shopping platforms and services such as Booking.com. DoorDash. Hulu. Instacart. and Uber Eats. Venmo is positioning itself as a mainstream checkout option—especially for shoppers who don’t want to rely on cash or carry multiple cards.

There’s a clear shift happening across retail: payment apps built for everyday transfers are increasingly treated like standard checkout tools, and Venmo is now showing up across brands from fashion to entertainment to quick food runs.

  1. Wait, does this mean you don’t need your card anymore? Like you can just scan and it pays from your bank?? I’m scared they’ll mess it up and charge twice.

  2. I tried scanning a QR at Starbucks once and it asked me to log into Venmo and I was like… no thanks. Also why are they saying 106 stores like that’s supposed to impress me? Half the time the app glitches anyway. Is this just in certain states or something? People keep telling me it’s touch-free but I still have to stand there holding my phone like an idiot.

  3. Every time they add more “major names” I wonder if it’s gonna get stolen data. Like Sephora and Abercrombie are accepting QR but my local place still can’t even take Apple Pay half the time. And don’t tell me it’s “touch-free” when I still gotta unlock my phone. Also Venmo credit card through Visa?? Sounds like another thing to make debt easier, not harder.
