Vance Denies U.S. $300B for Iran, Leaves Door Open

Vice President JD Vance rejected claims the United States is giving Iran $300 billion under a U.S.-Iran deal, insisting the U.S. will not provide “an American dollar” or “a single dime.” But he also said the agreement could still encourage “other countries to
Vice President JD Vance moved quickly Monday to slam down a specific number that dominated the day: $300 billion.
In an interview with CBS News’s Ed O’Keefe, Vance described a reported “sort of thing” Iran could access as reconstruction money, saying it would be “funded by the Gulf Coast Coalition” and only if Iran “honor[s] their end of the obligation.”
The comments landed as rumors spread that Iran might gain access to a $300 billion reconstruction fund under an agreement brokered by President Donald Trump’s administration. The claim became more combustible after Trump posted to Truth Social Monday evening while attending the G7 Summit in France. describing the figure as an apparent typo and calling the report “Fake News.”.
Trump wrote, “I am in France at G7. The 300 million thing is most likely a typo for 300 billion,” adding, “Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon!” He continued: “Also, the story that the U.S. is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is Fake News, put out by the Dumocrats!!!”
The dispute didn’t cool off after that. On Monday night, CNN host Sean Hannity pressed Vance for clarification.
Vance answered with a two-part denial: “We are not giving them an American dollar, no. 1, true? And no. 2, did the U.S. ever sign off on the Qataris paying them that money?”
But Vance’s remarks also revealed the boundary lines of his argument. He insisted Iran would not receive U.S. money directly—yet he did not offer a straightforward response on whether U.S. approval played a role in any $300 billion figure associated with the Gulf Coast Coalition.
Instead, he pivoted to what he said the agreement would permit if Iran follows through.
“No, the agreement says they are not getting a single dime of American money. That is just not what this is,” Vance said. “What the agreement does say. Sean. is again. if the Iranians behave. if there are sanctions relief. and if the Iranians are integrated into the world economy. we would invite other countries. not us but other countries to invest in their country. That is fine, but only if they comply with the terms of the agreement.”.
Central to Vance’s case was a set of conditions he said are spelled out in the “memorandum of understanding.” He said those commitments include never developing a nuclear weapon and opening the Strait of Hormuz “immediately.”
Vance also acknowledged the limits of what anyone can promise long term. “I can’t tell you, Sean, if five years down the road they are going to honor that commitment because I cannot predict the future,” he said.
Then he drew a hard line around enforcement: “What I can tell you is that if they don’t honor their commitments, they don’t get a dime from anybody, the United States ever, but a dime from anybody else either.”
The key tension in Vance’s remarks wasn’t whether a reported $300 billion figure is being attached to a U.S.-Iran agreement. It was where the money—and the responsibility—would land. Vance said the U.S. would not pay “an American dollar” or provide “a single dime” while also holding that outside investment could be encouraged if Iran meets the deal’s terms.

300 billion? sounds like every politician lies about money lol.
So it’s fake news but also there’s like a reconstruction fund?? I’m confused. Either Iran gets money or it doesn’t.
Vance saying “no American dollar” like that somehow makes it not money. And the Gulf Coast Coalition thing… is that even real or just another way to hide it. Also Trump said it was a typo for 300 million which feels like he’s just picking numbers that sound better.
I read that Trump posted “fake news” and then everyone ran with it, so I’m taking it as true that it’s not $300B. But wait, Vance also mentioned Qataris paying them? So is it the Gulf Coast coalition paying or Qatar paying or America paying through a loophole? This is why I don’t trust any of them, they say one thing then “reconstruction” and suddenly it’s money again.
