Utah Jazz hold No. 2 pick for 2026 draft

With the Utah Jazz slated to pick No. 2 in the upcoming 2026 NBA draft, a mock projection suggests a path that could pair Darryn Peterson with Keyonte George—if his injury questions fade.
For the Utah Jazz, the next NBA draft is already shaping up like a decision with ripple effects—especially with the No. 2 pick in the upcoming 2026 NBA draft. The class is being described as deep, which means the Jazz won’t be locked into a single storyline the way many teams are.
In a projection that circulated on Saturday. May 23. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report outlined his draft projections and set the tone with a likely No. 1 pick for the Washington Wizards: AJ Dybantsa. Buckley’s forecast leaves more uncertainty around Utah’s pick. where the Jazz could have a wider range of outcomes than most teams at No. 2.
In that same mock draft, Buckley has Utah selecting Darryn Peterson of Kansas.
“The fun narratives to follow with this pick,” Buckley said, pointing to multiple possible directions for Utah. One of them is “Utah making a daring move for Dybantsa after watching him star in this state the past two seasons.” Another is a more family-centered angle: “the Jazz uniting Cameron Boozer with his father. Carlos. a former All-Star performer who’s back with the franchise in a front office role.”.
But the projection that would most clearly connect with the current Jazz guard core centers on Peterson. The argument for Peterson to Utah is built around how he fits next to Keyonte George—described as a natural pairing that could support Utah’s next phase.
Peterson is presented as a player who could “slide right in next to Keyonte George as a natural scorer. secondary playmaker and tough defender who doesn’t mind doing the dirty work.” The idea is that two guards with complementary roles could make the rebuild feel less like a short-term reset and more like a longer project already pointed forward.
The other part of the case is risk. Before injuries disrupted his time at Kansas. Peterson “was viewed by plenty of people as the best player in this class.” If those concerns are now behind him. the projection suggests Utah could be taking a swing at “real star upside”—not just a role player. but someone who could change the ceiling of the roster.
For now, it remains a mock draft—useful for mapping possibilities, but never the final word. Still, with Utah holding No. 2, the question isn’t whether the Jazz can build around Keyonte George. It’s whether they can find the right partner in the next draft to make the whole plan start looking inevitable instead of uncertain.

No. 2?? If they’re really taking Peterson after the injury stuff that’s a bold move.
I don’t even get why everyone acts like Keyonte is guaranteed to be the guy. Like if Peterson slides next to him, are they just gonna play 2 guards forever? Injuries already ruined Kansas years so… idk.
Wait so Utah could draft Dybantsa AND pair him with Keyonte? That sounds like they’re just copying what worked in “state” or whatever lol. Also Cameron Boozer and his dad Carlos? Isn’t Carlos like the team owner or something? Feels like a family PR move more than basketball.
Mock drafts are always fake but Utah picking No. 2 is already stressing me out. If Peterson is “star upside” then why is there even injury questions, that’s literally the only question. Deep class means more chaos too right, so they could end up taking the wrong guy anyway. I just hope this doesn’t turn into another rebuild that takes 5 years.
