USMNT- Paraguay tickets stay expensive with kickoff days away

USMNT vs – With the U.S. men’s national team set to open the World Cup against Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium, ticket prices remain stubbornly high. Third-party listings show get-in prices still above $1,000, while FIFA’s official site offers only a small handful of
A few hours before kickoff turns into a reality, the price tag for the U.S. men’s national team’s first World Cup game is still doing what it’s done all along: staying high.
The USMNT opens the tournament against Paraguay on Friday. June 12. at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. California—the first match of the World Cup played on U.S. soil. Seth Vertelney delivered an injury update ahead of that match after the team’s final training session. The bigger question for many fans, though, is whether ticket costs will finally ease as the start time gets closer.
They haven’t. As of Thursday night—less than 24 hours before kickoff—TicketData.com, which tracks prices on third-party sites, put the “get-in” price just over $1,000. That figure marked a 14% increase over the past three days, and a 25% rise compared with the previous seven days.
On FIFA’s official ticket website, the supply was even tighter: there were only a handful of tickets available. The cheapest option listed was an $875 obstructed view seat in Category 2.
FIFA has also held tickets back throughout the sales process, a move critics say can make inventory appear scarcer than it really is. On FIFA’s official resale platform, prices varied more—but the “get-in” price still hovered right near $700.
The World Cup pricing controversy has followed FIFA into this match week. On Wednesday, FIFA president Gianni Infantino defended the organization’s approach in Mexico City. He said FIFA’s role is to generate revenue that can be reinvested into soccer development. even in countries that otherwise might not attract investment.
“As FIFA president. I have the statutory responsibility to generate the income which allows FIFA to invest in all of these countries. where otherwise nobody would invest. ” Infantino told reporters in Mexico City. “If nobody thinks of them, well, we do. It would be irresponsible if we don’t generate the right revenues in this market.”.
The sequence across the listings is hard to miss: as the Paraguay game nears, third-party prices have climbed, and FIFA’s official listings still show only limited availability—whether fans look at primary inventory or resale.
For a fan trying to decide whether to buy now or wait a little longer, the moment is immediate. Friday’s opener is close, and the numbers on the screen aren’t signaling relief.

So basically FIFA is price gouging again… surprised?
I don’t get why they keep saying “just wait” like the prices won’t move. It’s still like over a grand to get in?? That seems criminal for a soccer game.
Isn’t TicketData like… not official? I swear these lists always show whatever the reseller wants it to show. Also an $875 obstructed view is crazy, like why even bother buying that.
Infantino said it’s for reinvestment in countries that “nobody would invest” in, but it sure doesn’t feel like it when I’m looking at $1,000 tickets in California. And if FIFA “held tickets back,” doesn’t that just make it look like there’s less supply so people panic buy? I’m just gonna wait until the last minute or watch from a bar like everyone else.
