USC quarterback Jayden Maiava leads Robert Griffin III’s extremely ‘Outta Pocket’ Heisman list
Robert Griffin III has dropped his Heisman front runners, leading off with Jayden Maiava, the USC quarterback.
Week 0 of college football is in the books. USC quarterback Jayden Maiava is one of the top quarterbacks in the nation and had a solid first game. Now, Maiava is getting some Heisman Trophy buzz.
Robert Griffin III, on his podcast “Outta pocket with RGIII,” gave his top five Heisman frontrunners after Week 0.
His top guy was Maiava. The USC quarterback completed 25 of 29 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran in a score in the game. RGIII then has Virginia quarterback Beau Pribula in second. Pribula attempted just 11 passes in the game, completing nine of them. He had 155 yards with two touchdowns while also running for 110 yards.
In the third spot was USC wide receiver Trent Mosley. In the first college football game of his freshman season, Mosley hauled in seven receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown. Florida State running back Ousmane Kromah was in the fourth spot. He ran the ball 14 times for 115 yards and a touchdown. The list ended with David Warren, who was great for Stanford in their first game. Warren completed 22 of 34 passes for 31 yards and. touchdown in the win over Hawaii.
All five of the players played in Week 0, and while all of them had solid first weeks of the season, they are not likely to end up in the Heisman conversation. Quarterbacks Darian Mensah, Trinidad Chambliss, Arch Manning, and CJ Carr are the Heisman favorites, along with wide receiver Jeremiah Smith out of Ohio State. All five of them will take the field for the first time in Week 1.
