Trying the viral $100 caviar chicken nuggets at the U.S. Open

The US Open enters its quarterfinal round in men’s and women’s singles on Tuesday, Sept. 8, with eight matches over the next two days to cut the fields to the final four.
Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka has looked dominant throughout the women’s tournament in her bid for a third consecutive title at Flushing Meadows. She has yet to drop a set in her first four matches. Sabalenka is chasing a feat last accomplished by Serena Williams, who won three in a row from 2012-2014.
The USA’s best hopes for a women’s title rest with No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula, who reached the US Open final two years ago but lost to Sabalenka, and No. 4 seed Coco Gauff, who won her first Grand Slam singles title at the 2023 US Open before adding a French Open championship in 2025.
On the men’s side, no American has won the US Open since Andy Roddick did it in 2003. However, three of them have made it to this year’s quarterfinals: No. 8 seed Ben Shelton, No. 11 Frances Tiafoe and unseeded Alex Michelsen. The U.S. is guaranteed at least one semifinalist with Tiafoe and Michelsen facing each other.

Scooby Axson’s women’s quarterfinal predictions
There is no reason to get away from previous predictions: Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will be in the semifinals.
Pegula will dispatch fellow American Emma Navarro in the quarterfinals to set up a date with current Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova in the semfinals. Noskova will knock out two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and be partly responsible for Sabalenka losing her No. 1 ranking.
Coco Gauff, meanwhile, will prevail against Mirra Andreeva in a battle of the past two French Open champions, setting up a semifinal match against newly top-ranked Elena Rybakina, the reigning Australian Open champion.

Scooby Axson’s men’s quarterfinal predictions
Since the men’s draw is more unpredictable, with only three of the 10 seeds making the fourth round, two-time US Open winner Carlos Alcaraz (2022, 2025) is the pick here over Ben Shelton. U.S. fans will still have an American contender, though, as Frances Tiafoe reaches his third US Open semifinal (2022, 2024) after ending Alex Michelsen’s longshot bid.
On the other side of the draw, No. 1 Alexander Zverev will continue to cruise, dispatching an exhausted Botic van de Zandschulp, who needed five sets and three tiebreakers Monday to even reach the quarterfinals. Unseeded Karen Khachanov will notch another upset, taking down No. 28 Alexander Blockx, to set up a semifinal clash with Zverev.
