Urlacher rejects Bears’ dome plans, prefers Soldier Field
Urlacher rejects – Brian Urlacher says he doesn’t want the Bears anywhere near a dome and believes Soldier Field remains the right home. While he understands the financial pull of relocating to Indiana, he argues the move would cost the team its most meaningful advantage: playin
Brian Urlacher doesn’t just sound unconvinced about the Bears’ possible move—he sounds personally bothered by it.
As the team weighs options between building a dome in Illinois and building a dome in Indiana, the Hall of Fame linebacker made his preference clear. “I do not like the Bears playing anywhere but Soldier Field,” Urlacher told Kevin Clark on This Is Football.
For Urlacher, Soldier Field is the ideal answer because it’s where he played his home games with the Bears. But the dome options—no matter which state they come with—create a problem in his mind.
“I don’t like the idea of them playing in a dome anywhere. ” Urlacher said. adding that even a location like Arlington Heights in Illinois would still mean the team is inside. “Even if they went to Arlington Heights. which is in Illinois. they’re going to be in a dome. and if they go to Indiana they’ll be in a dome.”.
He also points to what the Bears lose if they move indoors: the edge that comes from being able to lean on Chicago winter conditions when other teams travel in. In his view, the Bears’ outdoor home-field advantage is real—and it’s not something you can fully recreate in a controlled environment.
“It’s the only advantage the Bears have,” Urlacher said. “You go to Soldier Field in November, December? It’s gonna suck. The weather is not gonna be good. You’re not gonna like it. And playing there, you practice in it, you get used to it, there’s some advantage to that.”
Even with that strong football stance, Urlacher doesn’t pretend the business side isn’t driving the conversation. He said Indiana, in particular, has incentives that could make the move feel unavoidable.
“I understand financially it makes a ton of sense for them to go to Indiana,” Urlacher said. He linked that to the fact that the Bears don’t own Soldier Field. and he suggested that means Sundays aren’t as profitable. “Indiana is willing to offer more. I don’t like it, but business wise it makes a ton of sense for them to go to Indiana.”.
Urlacher’s conclusion lands exactly where his argument began: the financial logic is easier to follow than the football one. “It makes sense from a business perspective. Not from a football perspective.”
Brian Urlacher Bears Soldier Field dome Indiana Illinois Arlington Heights NFL relocation home field advantage
Soldier Field forever. Domes are lame.
Wait so he’s mad they might go to Indiana but like… isn’t Indiana basically colder anyway? Idk it feels like excuses. Weather advantage my butt.
Kevin Clark really got Urlacher to say he doesn’t like domes like it’s some groundbreaking thing lol. But the “they don’t own Soldier Field” part makes me think the whole thing is just money being money. If Indiana’s paying, Bears are gonna move. Football fans always act surprised.
I swear they were saying Arlington Heights would still be “in” Illinois like that matters if it’s a dome. Also he says the weather gives an edge but didn’t they already have tough indoor stuff with the old roof/whatever? This is all just politics. If they go to a dome then what even is Chicago football, like the city part is gone.
