New Google Home arrives June 25 with Gemini at core

Google is taking pre-orders for its all-new Google Home speaker ahead of its official June 25 on-sale date. Priced at $100, the compact speaker targets clearer 360-degree audio and adds a new LED ring for mic activity—while Gemini replaces Google Assistant as

For people who use a smart speaker the moment they wake up—lights, music, the morning timer—Google’s timing matters. The all-new Google Home has finally arrived for pre-order at $100, with official on-sale date set for June 25.

Google says the new speaker is built to do what its predecessor did. but with sharper sound and a different approach. The Google Home is designed to deliver clear 360-degree audio in a more compact chassis. and it can still function as linked stereo speakers when paired with a second unit. When paired with Google’s TV Streamer, it can also serve up stereo audio while watching shows and movies.

The look and controls have also shifted. The outside is covered in a 3D knit fabric made from recycled materials. and it will come in four colors: hazel. porcelain. jade and berry. Instead of relying on indicator lights behind the speaker’s mesh. Google opted for a ring of LEDs around the base. The goal is more dynamic feedback when the mic is on and listening to commands or responding to questions.

The bigger change is the assistant. Gemini is taking center stage as the primary digital assistant, replacing the classic Google Assistant. With Gemini on the Home. Google says the speaker can handle more complicated or multi-step commands—like dimming all the lights in a room. playing music and setting a timer with a single query. It can also be asked to find a recipe for a specific dish before adding the ingredients to a shopping list.

Google also claims Gemini on the Home brings better contextual understanding and a longer short-term memory. so it can support deeper conversations without users constantly repeating relevant details. Google says that should help prevent hotword fatigue. since people won’t have to trigger the speaker as often by saying “Hey Google” or “OK. Google.”.

That “full potential” comes with a paywall of its own. To use the speaker’s capabilities more broadly, Google says you’ll need Google Home Premium. Upgrading to the $10 a month standard plan gives access to Gemini Live. which Google describes as offering deeper. more free-flowing chatbot-like conversations and enhanced automation capabilities. The $20 premium tier adds features including AI-based Home Brief. which summarizes events being tracked by compatible security cams. video doorbells and more. along with AI-based alert notifications and home video history.

For some buyers, the cost may already be covered. Google says that if you’re already subscribed to one of its AI and cloud storage plans. you may already have access to some of these features—for example. the $20 per month Google AI Pro subscription includes Google Home Premium Standard as part of the package.

The new Google Home speaker is available for pre-order now for $100, with official sales slated for June 25.

  1. I don’t get why they keep changing the assistant. My Google Home already messes up half my commands, like “dim the lights” and it just plays jazz. $100 though… tempting but I’m scared it’ll get worse with Gemini.

  2. Wait, so June 25 is when it goes on sale AND when Gemini starts working? I saw something about “more complicated commands” but isn’t that just marketing? Also the LED ring sounds like it’s gonna be distracting at night. If it’s 360 audio why does it still sound tinny in my kitchen??

  3. Gemini replacing Google Assistant is gonna be a mess. Like, I already have routines set up and now they’re like “here’s multi-step queries” um okay but what happens to the old stuff? And $100 for a “compact chassis” feels kinda high when the old one was like $50 on sale. I’m just gonna stick with my dumb Bluetooth speaker lol.
