BILOXI, Miss. — The Gulf is shifting, and the water could start answering back.

An unsettled weather pattern over the Gulf is expected to gradually develop a weak area of low pressure that lifts north toward the central Gulf Coast. The main impacts are forecast to come from strong offshore winds that may lead to minor coastal flooding in low-lying areas across Hancock. Harrison and Jackson Counties through Friday.

For residents who live close to the shoreline or along frequently flood-prone streets, the timing matters. Persistent onshore winds are expected to develop off the Mississippi and Southeast Louisiana coasts as this unsettled system moves north. raising water levels above normal during high tide cycles. The forecast calls for minor coastal flooding Wednesday through Friday, especially around those peak tides.

The coastal forecast includes specific high-tide windows:

BAY ST LOUIS: 1:48 PM (6/3), 2:24 PM (6/4), 2:55 PM (6/5)
BILOXI: 12:28 PM (6/3), 1:05 PM (6/4), 1:39 PM (6/5)

A coastal flood advisory is in effect for the situation. Under such an advisory, flooding of lots, parks, and roads with isolated road closures is expected. The guidance is direct: if travel is required. allow extra time because some roads may be closed. do not drive around barricades. and avoid driving through water of unknown depth. Residents are also urged to take steps to protect flood-prone property, including parking vehicles on higher ground.

While the wind is the immediate concern, rain chances follow a separate rhythm. A front is expected to bring drier air into South Mississippi Wednesday into Thursday, limiting rain chances. But as the weak low pressure lifts north. tropical moisture will increase the chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms Friday into the weekend across South Mississippi.

A few storms could turn heavier in short bursts, with localized flash flooding possible.

Still, there is a reason forecasters are keeping one outcome in check: tropical development is expected to be limited due to high wind shear. Wind shear can prevent tropical development by keeping thunderstorms from organizing over an area of low pressure.

The pattern unfolding over the Gulf is therefore a mix of wind-driven impacts and later-week storm risk: strong coastal winds through Friday, then a shift toward scattered storms as moisture surges north into the weekend.

  1. So is this like hurricanes without the hurricane? I just feel like the Gulf always does this now.

  2. Minor flooding means still gonna be bad for people in low areas right? Like road closures and all that. Why do they say minor like that’s not gonna mess up the commute.

  3. Does the high tide time matter if it’s offshore winds pushing water in? I saw Biloxi at 1:39 and thought that was tomorrow but it’s probably 6/5? Either way I’m staying off the roads.

  4. They keep saying wind shear will stop tropical stuff but then Friday into the weekend there’s scattered storms and flash flooding possible. That sounds tropical-ish to me. Also people will 100% drive around barricades bc “I’ve done it before” 🙄 then act surprised.
