Selena Gomez stepped back into the spotlight with a look that practically stops the scroll—dark red hair, styled in tight waves and worn just past her shoulders, parted slightly to the side. She shared the transformation in a carousel posted to Instagram on Wednesday, June 3.
The photos don’t just show the color. Gomez paired the new hair with a simple black tank top and gray sweatpants, letting the shade do all the talking. And while fans are still waiting for what the show’s podcasting characters will uncover next, her real-life twist is already clear.
Gomez is currently in London with her Only Murders in the Building castmates as they film Season 6 of the hit comedy murder-mystery TV series. In the meantime, the internet can’t stop reacting to the change. Ashley Park commented, “Ummmm lovvve the red!!. ❤️,” while celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo added, “😍😍.” Even the official Instagram account for London chimed in with “🙌🙌🙌😍😍😍.”.
Other images in the same carousel capture Gomez in a fuller. more playful mode—having a great time with costars Martin Short and Steve Martin. plus moments of classic tourist activity. She posed in front of the London Eye and took a row boat out for a spin. sharing the kind of behind-the-scenes break that makes filming cities feel very real.
What’s still up in the air is whether this hair color belongs to her character. Mabel Mora’s arc. or whether it’s simply a permanent new look for Gomez herself. With the timing landing right alongside Season 6 production. viewers are naturally wondering how much of this makeover will show up on-screen.
The show’s timeline gives the excitement room to grow. Only Murders in the Building Season 5 aired between September and October 2025, and Season 6—which is set in London—could arrive in the fall, though an official release date has not been confirmed.
The series has become a serious awards magnet since its inception in 2021. taking home one Critics’ Choice Award. seven Primetime Emmy Awards. and three People’s Choice Awards. among many other accolades. Gomez. Martin Short. and Steve Martin have turned the series into a runaway success. and the cast has also welcomed high-caliber guest and recurring appearances from Meryl Streep. Cara Delevingne. Paul Rudd. Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Tina Fey. Jimmy Fallon. Shirley MacLaine. Amy Schumer. Matthew Broderick. Eva Longoria. Eugene Levy. Renée Zellweger. and Kumail Nanjiani.
Outside of OMITB, Gomez has been building an entirely parallel kind of success. Her cosmetics label Rare Beauty has brought her major wealth and acclaim, and she’s continued her work as a tireless advocate for mental health. She also recently married music producer Benny Blanco.
Gomez and Blanco began dating in 2023, with their relationship moving quickly from there. They got engaged in December 2024 and tied the knot in September of last year. To mark her husband’s birthday this past March. the Disney Channel alum wrote on Instagram. “happy birthday my love 🥳♥️ I love you with all my heart.”.

Ok but the London Eye pic is way more important than the hair.
Not gonna lie the dark red looks good, like rich vampire mom vibes. But I swear every time someone changes hair it’s somehow for a character?? Like she’s in London so it’s obviously for Only Murders.
I don’t get the whole “is it for her character” thing. If she’s filming a season in London and posted it, that’s already the answer lol. Unless Mabel is secretly the one murdering, then yeah it’s character hair.
So she just… dyed it and now everyone thinks it’s clues? People are acting like the hair is evidence in a cold case. Also “dark red” could be like 3 different shades, I can’t tell from screenshots. Either way, Steve Martin and Martin Short will probably steal every scene so who cares about the shade.
