For fans showing up in a new city, the hardest part of match day often isn’t finding the stadium—it’s figuring out how to move once you’re inside it.
Only weeks after Uber Technologies announced new offerings at its annual Go-Get event in New York. the company is adding to its plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. On Friday. Uber described a new suite of features aimed at travelers heading to matches. including Uber Shuttle services at four World Cup venues in the United States and a Travel Pass that lets users secure savings on rides and Eats orders.
The most targeted upgrade is enhanced “smart wayfinding.” Uber says the feature improves in-app directions inside certain buildings. including places like airports and stadiums. The practical promise is simple: if you’re unfamiliar with a venue. you can use the Uber app to get on-the-ground directions—such as how to get from your seat to Uber pickup zones.
Uber says smart wayfinding won’t be available everywhere. It will vary in host city airports across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will work in host stadiums in San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.
Uber’s bet is that when crowds arrive, maps and directions inside the venues will matter more than ever. The company also noted that smart wayfinding is a feature it announced years ago. but with the World Cup coming to North America next month. those in-venue directions may become the difference between a smooth plan and a rushed one.
To keep fans in the match-day flow—right down to the emotional swing of tournament results—Uber is also introducing “defeated discounts.” Under the promotion. if a user’s favorite team is eliminated from the tournament. they’ll receive a 30% discount on their next ride in the U.S. and Canada, up to $7.
“Our goal is for Uber to make that experience simple . . . [so fans] can focus less on logistics and more on the excitement that makes soccer so special,” said Amit Fulay, Uber’s VP of product, in a statement provided to Fast Company.
The timing isn’t accidental. By pairing transportation options at key venues with in-building directions—and adding a reward tied to the ups and downs of tournament play—Uber is trying to turn a sprawling. high-pressure travel week into something closer to a single. navigable route: get to the stadium. find your pickup zone. and spend more time cheering than searching.

So does this work at every stadium or is it just the lucky ones? Bc last time I used Uber in a venue it was chaos.
Kinda cool that they’re adding pickup zone directions inside the stadium/airport, but I feel like they’ll still have drivers circling like 40 minutes. Also the “defeated discounts” sounds like a marketing gimmick lol.
Wait, “defeated discounts” means if your team loses you get money off, right? But what if they tie? Like does a draw count as getting defeated??
Uber really out here acting like they can direct people from their seat to the Uber van… but usually the real problem is the entrances and cops and the lines, not the app. And it says it won’t be available everywhere like okay so then what are we supposed to do, just guess? I’m skeptical.
