U.S. Marshals Search for Wisconsin Man Wanted in Violent Child Abuse Case

Federal authorities are actively searching for a Wisconsin man who failed to appear in court on charges of violently abusing children inside a Manitowoc home. Lavell Nance, who investigators state has an extensive criminal history, is now the target of a statewide manhunt led by the U.S. Marshals.
The case dates back to 2022, when local police initiated an investigation after an unresponsive child was discovered at a residence in Manitowoc. According to authorities, the toddler was brought to a hospital suffering from an unspecified medical condition and subsequently died.
While the initial response focused on the child’s medical emergency and subsequent death, the investigation soon expanded to encompass the living conditions and safety of other children residing at the same home. A subsequent criminal complaint detailed that law enforcement officers executing inquiries at the property discovered large quantities of MDMA, alongside evidence revealing physical abuse inflicted upon other children living in the house.
Investigators on the case described a disturbing pattern of behavior uncovered during the inquiry. Officials stated that the abuse appeared to be an ongoing situation wherein Nance engaged in severe violent acts directed at the children, allegedly under the guise of discipline. Authorities emphasized that these actions far exceeded any standard acceptable threshold for child discipline.
Consequently, Nance and an unidentified woman were criminally charged with child abuse in connection with the findings at the home, though those specific charges are separate from the toddler’s death. As legal proceedings advanced, Nance stopped attending court hearings, prompting a judge to issue an active warrant for his arrest.
Law enforcement officials describe Nance as standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. He is known to sometimes use the alias “Lil One.” Among his identifying physical characteristics is a noticeable four-inch scar extending across his neck, as well as a distinct tattoo on his right arm featuring a scroll inscribed with children’s names.

Authorities note that Nance carries a significant criminal background that includes prior convictions for armed robbery, drug offenses, and battery by a prisoner. Investigators believe he is currently operating within southeastern Wisconsin.
Given his background and the nature of the allegations, federal marshals have expressed urgent concern regarding community safety, particularly emphasizing the protection of any children who might come into contact with him.
Anyone possessing information regarding the whereabouts of Lavell Nance is encouraged to contact the U.S. Marshals tip line at 414-297-3707. Authorities confirmed that tipsters can remain anonymous.
