NYPD Seeks Two Men Linked to Citywide Commercial Vehicle Burglary Spree

New York City law enforcement officials are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two men suspected of carrying out a string of commercial vehicle burglaries across multiple boroughs during August and September 2026. According to the New York Police Department’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, the suspects have targeted parked work vehicles in eight separate incidents, making off with more than $79,000 in specialized equipment, tools, and automotive parts.

Investigators stated that the perpetrators utilized a consistent method during the spree, typically shattering the side windows of parked vehicles to gain entry. In each reported instance, the suspects fled the scene aboard a black Honda Accord. Throughout the break-ins, both men wore blue Amazon vests, a distinctive wardrobe choice that investigators hope will help witnesses identify them.

The crime pattern spans several precincts and dates back to early August. On August 4 at approximately 2 p.m., within the 104th Precinct, the suspects targeted a vehicle opposite 87-01 Myrtle Avenue, stealing $4,550 worth of dash cameras and sensors. Later the same day at 5 p.m., within the 43rd Precinct, $13,000 in tools was removed from a Universal Handy Man vehicle parked outside 2069 Bruckner Boulevard.

Additional incidents followed over the next several weeks. On August 8 at 8:10 a.m., within the 61st Precinct, $18,200—corrected in subsequent updates to $16,200—in construction gear was taken outside 2733 East 12th Street. On August 12, two separate thefts occurred within the 114th Precinct. At 10:30 a.m., supplies and tools valued at $7,200 were taken from a New York City Department of Education truck near 36th Avenue and 34th Street. Later that afternoon at 4:15 p.m., $6,000 in tools was stolen from a Hilti vehicle outside 40-15 Northern Boulevard.

The spree continued into September with the single largest reported theft. On September 1 at 10:30 a.m., within the 41st Precinct, $28,300 in tools was taken from a Noble Plumbing and Heating vehicle parked outside 1010 Reverend James A. Polite Avenue. Two weeks later, on September 14 within the 43rd Precinct, two more break-ins occurred. At 3:30 p.m., $2,400 in tools was stolen from a Midtown Plumbing vehicle outside 1770 Lacombe Avenue. At 5 p.m. that same day, $2,000 in tools was taken from a Rael Automatic Sprinkler vehicle located behind 116 Heron Lane.

Police have released physical descriptions of the suspects involved in the pattern. Both individuals are described as men with medium builds. One suspect has a dark complexion, while the second suspect has a medium complexion and wears his brown hair tied back in a ponytail. Investigators have recovered surveillance photographs stemming from the Bruckner Boulevard break-in, as well as video footage captured during the incident on Reverend James A. Polite Avenue.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the suspects to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
