Two men charged after Southampton disorder linked to Henry Nowak

Two men have been charged following the violent disorder in Southampton in the wake of the sentencing of Henry Nowak’s murderer. The Crown Prosecution Service said Matt Styler, 50, has been charged with assaulting a police officer and Daniel Frost, 44, has been charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon over the events in the south coast city on Tuesday evening. The pair will appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. Sophie Stevens, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Wessex, said: “We

have decided to prosecute Matt Styler with assault of an emergency worker. “Later our out of hours team CPS Direct also directed that Daniel Frost was charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon – this followed an investigation into alleged offending following protests held in Southampton on Tuesday evening. “Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings. “We have worked closely

with Hampshire Police as it has carried out its investigation.” More to follow.

  1. Assaulting a police officer is still assault no matter what. But they’re charging two guys only, where’s everyone else who “was protesting”??

  2. I don’t get it, the article says it was “in the wake of the sentencing” like the sentencing made people violent?? Like why would that even happen. Also “offensive weapon” sounds so vague, like a bottle or something? They should’ve just said what it was.

  3. Southampton court stuff always turns into chaos, I swear. Isn’t this the same Henry Nowak case from years ago? I saw a clip where people were yelling at cops but then I heard it was just “protests,” so now they’re calling it violent disorder and that Matt Styler guy gets assault of an emergency worker… feels like politics honestly. Either way, Thursday court date doesn’t change the fact people probably got provoked.
