Supernatural returns on Quest, but subscriptions jump hard

Supernatural returns – After Meta said it would stop updating Supernatural, the VR exercise app is coming back this fall as an independently owned app on Meta Quest—run by a new company, Supernatural Health. Coaches return, but subscribers will pay more: $180 a year instead of $100,

For Supernatural fans, the disappointment landed months before it was supposed to—Meta had planned to stop updating the VR exercise app with fresh workouts and songs. But just as that shutdown narrative was settling in, the app found its way back.

This fall, Supernatural will return as a new independently owned app released on the Meta Quest platform. The new company behind it is Supernatural Health, and the coaches are back with it.

The trade-off is immediate and painful for anyone who’s been paying for the current plan. Subscription prices are going up: the yearly cost is moving from $100 a year to $180 a year. The monthly subscription is also increasing from $10 to $20. It’s a bigger jump than most users will expect after a platform change—and it lands right when the app’s future was already in doubt.

The pre-existing Supernatural app still exists for now, but it’s not getting any new workouts or songs. Meta says it will be completely sunsetted on December 3. After that date, users will have to migrate to the new app.

Meta’s decision to stop updating Supernatural came alongside broader moves inside its VR and metaverse division. Meta recently made major cuts across the division, laying off hundreds of people and shuttering three studios.

Even with the return, questions remain for the people building their fitness routines around the app. The new company has not spelled out what the schedule for new songs and workouts will look like. though the hope is that the higher subscription price brings more content. There’s also no clarity yet on whether the new app can be ported to other platforms.

Meta’s restructuring hasn’t stopped its own hardware ambitions, either. A company memo suggests the Quest 4 is in active development and could be a “large upgrade” over Quest 3, though it may be much more expensive.

So Supernatural’s second chance comes with a familiar VR-fitness tension: relief that the coaches and platform are continuing, paired with a new cost reality—and a firm December 3 deadline for anyone still using the original app.

  1. I’m not paying $180 for workout songs lol. The app better still have the same stuff or I’m out. Also Meta laid people off and now they want more money, of course.

  2. Wait so the old Supernatural just stops December 3? That’s wild because I thought it was all Meta’s fault, like they killed it. But now a new company runs it?? I’m confused how that’s even allowed, like who owns your account.

  3. December 3 deadline is stressful, I didn’t even know there was a migration. Plus if they don’t say when new workouts/songs come, that $20 a month is basically paying for “maybe.” I heard Quest 4 is coming too so I’m guessing they’re gonna keep pushing upgrades and everyone’s gonna be forced into the new one anyway.
