When Turkey and Paraguay walk onto the field in Northern California, it won’t just be another World Cup match. The result could help decide whether the United States men’s national team is already safe as Group D moves toward its final day—or whether everything tightens up for the showdown in Los Angeles on June 24.
Turkey arrives after a 2-0 loss to Australia in its first match. The U.S., meanwhile, began its tournament by crushing Paraguay 4-1 at SoFi Stadium, setting an early tone in a group where positioning matters as much as performance.

One set of picks had Turkey beating Paraguay 1-0 and another group forecast a 0-0 draw. suggesting a matchup shaped as much by styles as by talent. Other predictions put Turkey ahead 2-0. while at least one projected a 1-1 result—reflecting the sense that Turkey’s attack and Paraguay’s defensive approach could determine whether goals come in bunches or not at all.

Turkey has never won the FIFA World Cup, but it did reach the semifinals in 2002 and ultimately finished third. For Paraguay, the team is being viewed as not as bad as it looked against the U.S., even though it started with a heavy 4-1 defeat at SoFi Stadium.
Whatever each side hopes for. the schedule makes this clear: the outcome tonight shapes what fans will watch next week—because if Turkey wins. the Group D picture won’t be settled early. If not, the U.S. could lock in top spot while attention quickly turns to the knockouts and the broader push for survival in a 48-team tournament.

So if Turkey wins then US is basically screwed right? Like I don’t get it.
I can’t believe it’s at Levi’s Stadium at 11pm, who is even staying up for that. Also USMNT already beat Paraguay 4-1 so Turkey better not act like they’re hard or whatever.
Wait it says draw or Paraguay win clinches top spot for US. So does that mean if Turkey loses (obviously) the US still has nothing to worry about? I swear these group scenarios always confuse me and then I just check scores later.
Turkey starting lineup is wild with all those names, like I’m supposed to know who anyone is lol. And it’s on FS1 and also Fubo? They’ll make it hard just to prove a point. The whole “math is complicated” part sounds like they’re setting up an upset on June 24 in LA, calling it now.
