The opening day of practice at the Isle of Man TT turned into a medical emergency on Monday afternoon when a motorcycle rider collided with spectators at 1.30pm at Parliament Square in Ramsey.

Eight spectators were rushed to hospital after the crash, and the unnamed rider was also taken to hospital with leg injuries. Organisers say the rider was conscious and talking when he was treated.

For the moment, the TT’s danger is usually measured in miles and corners on the 37.73-mile course. This time. organisers say all activity on that route was suspended after the incident. and they moved quickly to manage the scene. The crash happened during practice for the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. known for taking place on closed public roads. and the day’s racing was halted.

In a statement, organisers confirmed the incident involved “a single competitor and a number of spectators”. The spectators were also conscious but required treatment after being taken to Noble’s Hospital.

To make sure the response was handled as effectively as possible. organisers said the decision was made to suspend any further racing activity for the remainder of the day. In line with the event’s standard operating procedures, an investigation is now underway involving race, medical and safety personnel.

Organisers thanked the marshals, medical teams, emergency services, Manx Care and all personnel involved in Monday’s response, and added: “our thoughts remain with those affected.”

The 2026 TT continues on closed public roads and runs until June 6, but on Monday the priority shifted from practice pace to immediate care and a full look at what happened at Parliament Square in Ramsey.

  1. I mean it’s on closed roads so why were spectators that close like… cmon. Glad they’re conscious but still, how does a rider just clip them at 1:30.

  2. TT always sounds dangerous, but they suspended the whole 37 mile course like that fixes anything. Also “single competitor” doesn’t really explain if the bike had a mechanical issue or if the crowd barrier failed or what.

  3. They said rider was talking, that’s good, but eight spectators is a lot… sounds like someone wasn’t watching the course. I heard somewhere this was like Parliament Square in Ramsey and that’s probably why people were lined up—doesn’t matter if it’s closed, people act like it’s a viewing party. Hope Noble’s Hospital can handle it and they actually figure out what happened instead of just doing an “investigation.”
