Early Saturday morning, at about 5:36 a.m., a collision at the intersection of East Washington Avenue and North Bruce Street turned into a fatal scene.

Police said a 1993 Nissan truck was traveling westbound on Washington Avenue and entered the intersection on a yellow traffic signal light at Bruce Street. The Nissan then started to make a left turn onto southbound Bruce Street.

At the same time, a 2015 Ford Mustang was speeding eastbound on Washington Avenue in the left travel lane. The driver failed to slow down and entered the intersection at a high rate of speed as the light turned red.

The impact was immediate and violent. The Ford’s front end collided with the Nissan’s right side, redirecting both vehicles to the west and ejecting the Nissan’s driver.

Medical personnel performed life-saving measures on the Nissan driver, but the person was pronounced dead at the collision scene via telemetry. The crash remains under investigation.

The Ford driver was transported to the UMC Trauma Center and admitted for life-threatening injuries. The Ford passenger was also transported to the UMC Trauma Center and admitted for critical injuries.

Police said the Ford driver displayed signs of impairment and was arrested and booked in absentia for charges related to DUI and reckless driving.

For LVMPD, the death landed on a grim tally: it marked the 48th traffic-related death in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2026.

  1. I don’t get how they say DUI and reckless but also “booked in absentia”?? Like where was the driver, just roaming around Vegas? Seems messy.

  2. Mustang entering on red at high speed… sounds like one of those “I’ll make it” situations. But I’m confused because it says the Nissan went in on yellow and then left turn, so it was basically everyone trying to beat the light. Either way somebody’s not slowing down, period.

  3. 48th traffic death already?? That’s insane. I swear these roads are getting worse and people don’t care. Also “life-saving measures via telemetry” like they were connected to a screen or something, that part sounds creepy. Hope they find out what was in the driver’s system though, because if it’s impairment then this could’ve been avoided.
