Trump’s Game 3 visit triggers strict MSG bag ban

Trump’s Game – President Donald Trump’s expected appearance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden next week has prompted major security changes, including airport-style screening and a ban on all bags, from purses to backpacks. Ticketed fans will face heighten

A Monday night at Madison Square Garden is about to feel a lot more like an airport.

President Donald Trump’s expected appearance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals next week is already reshaping what fans should bring—and what they won’t be allowed to bring—into the arena. The change is tied to security plans for the Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs game on Monday (June 8), with the Knicks currently leading the series 2-0.

An official statement shared on the New York Knicks X account set the tone early. beginning with: “As we move closer to Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday night. Madison Square Garden and the United States Secret Service want to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all ticket holders by sharing important security procedures that will be in place.”.

That’s where the stricter rules come in. Fans entering Madison Square Garden should expect airport-style screening procedures before getting inside. Law enforcement officials also told CBS News that no bags of any kind will be permitted inside the arena—“including purses, backpacks, and totes.”

The Knicks are also making it clear that only ticketed fans will be allowed into the arena. Checkpoints are expected to open at 6:30 p.m., two hours before tipoff, and officials are encouraging attendees to arrive early because of the enhanced screening process.

A complete list of prohibited items has been shared online on the Secret Service website.

Security won’t stop at the doors. Reports indicate the area surrounding Madison Square Garden will see restrictions as well, including no watch parties near the venue and limited vehicle and pedestrian access around portions of the arena.

Trump is expected to attend after receiving an invitation from Knicks owner James Dolan. If he shows up as scheduled, he would become the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA game since former President Barack Obama attended a season opener in 2015.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he plans to attend too, while noting he will be seated in a different area of the arena.

For fans making the trip to Midtown, the message is already landing: with screening tightened and bags banned completely, the Game 3 experience begins long before tipoff.
