Simone Biles looked back on the week with a blunt kind of disbelief.

On Saturday. June 6. the Olympic gold medalist. 29. posted through her Instagram Stories that she was recovering from a recent medical emergency—one she didn’t expect to experience at all. “I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. but almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card this week. ” Biles wrote. alongside a selfie of herself wearing multiple hospital bracelets. She added, “This was one of, if not the, scariest experience of my life.”.

She didn’t disclose what happened medically. But she did lay bare the emotional reality of that kind of uncertainty. Biles said she was especially upset that her husband, Jonathan Owens, was away during the ordeal.

“Jonathan was in Indy for practices,” she wrote, referring to Owens’ preseason NFL practice with the Indianapolis Colts. “I’ve been in bed resting this week.”

Biles also told viewers she would explain more later, thanking the people who reached out during her time in bed. “I’ll explain sooner or later. but [shout out] to my close circle who reached out. checked in. visited or sent flowers 🤍🤍🤍. Love y’all.” After that. she shared images of multiple floral arrangements she’d received.

In another post, Biles captioned a photo of her bed with, “I’ll be here,” and included a screenshot showing a monitor’s reading of her current resting heart rate.

Owens and Biles, 30, met in March 2020 through the celebrity dating app Raya, with their relationship eventually leading to marriage in 2023. Owens described their meeting during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown to Texas Monthly in 2021. saying. “It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off and she couldn’t do anything. ” and that they used the time to get to know each other. adding. “We used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now, I’m so thankful.”.

By July 2024, Owens also talked about attending Biles’ gymnastic meets. He told Us Weekly. “It is not much motivation you need to do. just because you don’t want to put extra. added pressure on anyone. I just tell her. ‘Go do your thing. baby. ’” and described how it gives him focus: “You get a different type of focus whenever you just have this one person that you’re focusing on.”.

Owens’ NFL schedule was also recently changing. On Friday, March 13, Biles, 28 at the time, reposted that Owens had signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts. In that same Instagram Stories message, she wrote, “No Friday the 13th scaries here,” adding, “So proud of you, baby.”

Owens later said meeting Simone made him a better athlete. telling Us Weekly. “I’ve played a lot better since [meeting Simone].” He said he’d been focused. and that when he comes home. they keep life grounded with home routines—“you come home. talk about my day and play with the dogs. you know what I mean?. That’s just kind of, like, our thing.”.

Owens, who had not publicly addressed Biles’ recent health scare, signed with the Colts in March after previous stints with the Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, respectively.
