Trump’s 4 a.m. “Dumocrats” rant ties FISA to voting curbs

Trump demands – Hours after his 80th birthday celebrations wrapped—capped by a UFC event on the White House grounds—President Donald Trump posted a late-night Truth Social rant at about 4 a.m. Monday. He attacked “Dumocrats” for backing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance A
The celebration had barely ended when the president went back on the offensive.
Shortly before 4 a.m. Monday. President Donald Trump posted another blistering message on his Truth Social platform—this time aimed at the Democratic Party and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. In the post. he used the term “Dumocrats. ” writing: “The Dumocrats want FISA because that’s what they used to go after me for three years during my First Term!”.
He then sharpened his demand. “I’m against FISA if it doesn’t come with The Save America Act (Full version!) firmly attached to it. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump’s pitch for linking FISA to his proposed “Save America Act” is explicit, not rhetorical. He said the measure would require all voters to provide photo identification and eliminate the option of mail-in ballots. with few exceptions. In the same thread of promises and prohibitions. he also said it would ban “MEN IN WOMEN’S SPORTS” and “TRANSGENDER MUTILIZATION SURGERY FOR OUR CHILDREN.”.
The policy target is tied to a surveillance law with major operational reach. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is used by U.S. intelligence agencies to collect the communications of hundreds of thousands of foreigners. The government has also said that more than 60% of the president’s daily intelligence briefing is directly reliant on information collected under the authority.
That helps explain why the House vote last week landed like a crack in the wall. Last week. the House rejected a three-week extension of FISA’s Section 702 after Trump tapped Bill Pulte—an ally who has shown a willingness to use the government to attack the president’s critics—as acting director of national intelligence.
Trump’s decision to return to the microphone so quickly after his own public milestone has drawn added attention. His Truth Social post came just hours after his 80th birthday festivities wrapped up.
The birthday weekend featured what he framed as spectacle. including a UFC fight staged on the South Lawn of the White House. The event was captured for posterity in a Paramount+ streaming broadcast. It was also met with widespread criticism. with many pointing to the president’s emphasis on staging the event as the United States continues to grapple with the war in Iran and widespread economic concerns. including high gas prices.
Even before Trump’s late-night rant, public skepticism was visible in polling. A Reuters/Ipsos poll published last week found that just 16% of Americans said it was appropriate for Trump to use the White House grounds for such an event.
By the time the clock approached 4 a.m., the campaign posture had returned: FISA was cast as political leverage—something Democrats allegedly backed to attack him, and something Trump said he would oppose unless it is folded together with voting and social restrictions under the “Save America Act.”
And for a White House already under pressure on multiple fronts at once—foreign conflict, everyday costs at the pump, and the politics of surveillance—the president’s timing ensured the birthday festivities ended not with a quiet landing, but with another fight launched into the night.

So he wants FISA only if you show your ID? Seems kinda backwards.
I didn’t even know FISA was connected to voting until this. Honestly the whole thing sounds like he’s just mad about being watched?? Also “Dumocrats” is childish but I guess it works on his base.
Wait I thought FISA was about spying on Americans not foreigners? Like if it’s “hundreds of thousands of foreigners” then why does it matter to elections at all? Maybe I’m mixing it up with something else but linking it to mail-in ballots feels like a sneaky trade.
This is why nothing ever gets fixed. He’s 80 and ranting at 4 a.m. then tossing in “Save America Act” like it’s a combo meal with FISA. And the part about mail-in ballots… like okay so now surveillance law has to come with voting rules? Also “men in women’s sports” and that surgery line—every thread turns into culture war, not solutions.
