For thousands of Americans who compare prices at the pharmacy counter and then second-guess whether they can afford to fill a prescription, the difference can be the few dollars printed on a coupon.

On Friday. President Donald Trump leaned into that moment with an update to his administration’s prescription discount push: TrumpRx.gov. the government-backed website. has added 160 more prescription drugs. bringing the total number of discounted medications available through the program to more than 800.

In a Truth Social post. Trump wrote. “I am pleased to announce that TrumpRx.gov is adding another 160 Prescription Drugs. at highly discounted prices. for a new total of over 800 of the most commonly-used Prescription Drugs.” He added that TrumpRx.gov “will now provide clear. transparent. and DISCOUNTED offerings for FOUR OUT OF FIVE of every prescription filled by Americans.”.

The program has a backstory that’s closely tied to how the administration says it negotiated drug pricing. Trump unveiled the initiative in February, arguing that Americans have long paid more for prescription drugs than consumers in many other countries.

The website launched after the administration finalized agreements with 16 major pharmaceutical companies under what it described as “most-favored-nation” pricing arrangements. Under those agreements. participating drugmakers received tariff-related exemptions while agreeing to lower prices for certain medications and extend discounted pricing to eligible cash-paying consumers through TrumpRx. according to the administration.

Companies including Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk are participating in the program. The administration says the companies agreed to reduce prices on popular GLP-1 weight-loss medications. Officials have also highlighted discounts on a range of other products, including inhalers, HIV treatments, diabetes medications and fertility drugs.

TrumpRx.gov is built around helping users shop by price. The site allows people to search for discounted medications, view estimated savings and generate coupons for participating prescriptions.

Trump also framed the expansion as part of a broader effort from his first term and a new round of momentum tied to the “most-favored-nation” pricing approach. “I was proud to make History during my First Term when we lowered Drug Prices. even if by a tiny percentage. because this amounted to a HUGE change compared to other presidents only raising Drug Prices. endlessly and significantly. every year. ” he wrote. “Then. during my Second Term. I decided to go BIG with Most Favored Nations Pricing — That is to say. we pay no more or. ideally. less than any other Country for the same exact Drug.”.

He then argued that the new discounts are tied to what he described as tariff leverage. “Now we are cutting Prices, and cutting them by a LOT, sometimes by 400 or 500 or 600 Percent!” he wrote.

In the same post. Trump said the program has produced significant consumer savings: “These Most Favored Nations Deals have already. in fact. saved American Patients over 400 Million Dollars since the launch of TrumpRx.gov.” He further added that he believes tariffs played a key role in securing the pricing agreements. writing. “Of course. Most Favored Nations would not be possible without my use of TARIFFS. which are getting other Countries to ‘pay up’ instead of relying on American Patients getting ripped off. as they were for decades until I ordered an immediate ‘stop’ to this very unfair and. frankly. foolish situation.”.

To close out the announcement, Trump said he has instructed his administration to keep negotiating and expanding. “This is all great news, and I have instructed my Administration to secure more Most Favored Nations Deals, more Partnerships, and Lower Prices for every American Patient,” he wrote.

The expansion lands amid the ongoing public pressure around drug affordability—especially for people who don’t have the kind of coverage that makes a prescription cost predictable. For them. TrumpRx’s growing catalog and coupon workflow are meant to be the difference between skipping a medication and getting it filled.

  1. 4 out of 5 prescriptions?? Cool headline but I’m still paying way more at CVS, so guess it doesn’t apply to my pharmacy or my meds. Also why is it called TrumpRx like that, kinda weird.

  2. I saw something about “most-favored-nation” and that sounds like they’re just gonna pick the lowest bidder and slap a discount on it. Like do they actually negotiate with the pharmacies too? Cause the pharmacy counter people don’t seem to care what the website says.

  3. Over 800 drugs is a lot, but I feel like they’ll exclude the stuff most people take or make you jump through hoops like sign in and use cash only or something. They keep saying tariff exemptions?? That sounds like tariffs are still happening and then they “discount” it so we don’t notice. Also GLP-1s are already expensive so I’ll believe it when I see my copay drop.
