When President Donald Trump walked into his Saturday announcement, the timing was the point as much as the choice itself. The president said the Senate must confirm his nominee for Immigration and Customs Enforcement “IMMEDIATELY. ” pressing that there should be no delay before Lance Schroyer takes over.

Trump announced his nomination for ICE director in a post shared Saturday. saying he would nominate former Oklahoma State trooper Lance Schroyer. Trump described Schroyer as a former Oklahoma State trooper and a United States Marine. and he framed the pick as a move powered by years of operational policing in Oklahoma.

In the post, Trump said Schroyer has “over 29 YEARS of Law Enforcement experience in Oklahoma.” He also said Schroyer is a “PATRIOT” with what Trump called “real operational experience,” adding that the officer has decades of experience “locking up the worst of the worst.”

Trump also pointed to Schroyer’s involvement with what he described as enforcement partnerships with ICE. saying Schroyer helped spearhead “287g Law Enforcement partnerships with ICE.” The president said Schroyer has “firsthand experience getting Illegal Aliens OFF our streets. ” and he said Schroyer “LOVES the men and women of ICE.”.

The most forceful part of Trump’s pitch was the mission he said Schroyer is ready to carry out. Trump said Schroyer has what it takes to “DETAIN AND DEPORT Illegal Alien Criminals. ” naming “murders. rapists. and drug traffickers.” Trump tied that promise to what he said is the performance of the administration’s enforcement operation. writing that his administration has the “HIGHEST Daily Arrest Rate by ICE and CBP than ANY other President. by far. ” and asserting. “It’s not even close!”.

Trump’s demand for speed landed alongside the broader political message he has used before: he said Schroyer and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin can help him “MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN.” Trump closed his post with a clear instruction to the Senate. writing. “The Senate must CONFIRM Lance. IMMEDIATELY — Do not delay.”.

The nomination comes after a leadership shuffle inside ICE itself. Todd Lyons resigned as acting ICE director at the end of May, and Lyons had taken over early in Trump’s second term after Caleb Vitello was reassigned.

By laying out Schroyer’s law enforcement record in Oklahoma and emphasizing his role in partnerships tied to 287(g). Trump is betting that the Senate will treat this as more than a routine appointment. He made confirmation urgency part of the message—less a waiting game. more a handoff he wants completed quickly—at the same moment ICE’s acting leadership role has already changed once this term.
