President Donald Trump warned Thursday night that Maria Bartiromo’s fans “will not be happy” after Fox News Media abruptly parted ways with the longtime anchor.
Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday evening:
I can’t believe Maria Bartiromo is no longer going to have her great show(s) on FoxNews/Business. Three different shows, always number one. Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior. Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy. God bless you, Maria! President DONALD J. TRUMP
Bartiromo’s abrupt exit from Fox News Media was announced Thursday, ending a 12-and-a-half-year run at the network amid reports that she shared confidential internal guidance with the Trump White House.
According to reporting from Status and Puck, Bartiromo sent senior White House officials a screenshot of directives instructing Fox Business staffers not to lend credence to Trump’s claims about the 2020 election and China following a July primetime speech. Fox executives reportedly learned of the disclosure after receiving a call from the White House.
Mediaite subsequently learned that the incident was the final straw in a “confluence of factors” behind Bartiromo’s ouster. Those included her role in coverage at the center of Fox’s $787.5 million Dominion Voting Systems settlement, the still-pending Smartmatic litigation, and a May segment in which Kevin O’Leary made accusations about opponents of his Utah data center project that he later retracted.
In the weeks before her departure, Bartiromo had also been isolated from her colleagues, Mediaite reported, with even her own staff instructed to go through management before communicating with her.
Fox also parted ways Thursday with Mornings With Maria executive producer Patrick Ignozzi, Puck first reported.
The network characterized Bartiromo’s departure to Status as a “business decision.” An official press release thanked her “for her work over the last 12 ½ years.”
Trump’s son, Eric Trump, also spoke out in a Thursday social media post, calling Bartiromo “the best interviewer on television” and adding, “This is a huge loss for Fox.”
