Trump rages at Mamdani coverage, seeks applause of his own

Trump complains – President Donald Trump lashed out on Truth Social at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani after Mamdani-backed candidates won their Democratic primaries this week, complaining he was getting “zero media attention” for victories he said he helped deliver. The pos
When President Donald Trump woke up to more political headlines dominated by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, he didn’t just watch the story move past him—he tried to grab it back.
On Wednesday. Trump fired off a rant on Truth Social. complaining that coverage of Mamdani’s “stunning successes” after Tuesday night’s New York Democratic primary elections left him with what he described as a wall of silence. He said three candidates endorsed by Mamdani—candidates Trump framed as “Communists”—won their races. and he treated the way the media wrote about it like a personal slight.
“Mayor Mamdani pulled through 3 solid Communists, and has received loud and universal applause from the Fake News Media,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations Mr. Mayor.”
He then pivoted to his own parallel victories. Trump claimed he “went 16-0 last night,” saying he had helped elect “wonderful American Patriots,” and said the media still wouldn’t acknowledge it. He complained he received “zero media attention!!!” for primary triumphs in the past two years.
The outburst followed an earlier post from 2:38 a.m. ET Tuesday that also referenced Mamdani. “America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!! President DJT,” the message read.
The New York results Trump was reacting to fed a broader story that progressives in the Democratic Party appear to be making headway. Mamdani. 34. had already triggered what the political class described as a “political earthquake” with his 2025 election. and he is now consolidating power. This time, the three primary wins he backed were expected to reverberate into Congress.
In one race, Mamdani supported former city Comptroller Brad Lander, who defeated two-term Rep. Dan Goldman.
In another, Assemblywoman Claire Valdez beat Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso for an open congressional seat.
A third win came from activist Darializa Avila Chevalier, who narrowly defeated five-term Rep. Adriano Espaillat, chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Trump’s post also leaned on a claim about his own influence in elections beyond New York. He suggested that 16 candidates he backed in New York, Utah, Maryland and South Carolina were victorious. In one spot. his complaint was tied to a nuance: he actually threw his weight behind both contenders in a runoff for the South Carolina governor nomination.
What Trump framed as a media double standard landed against a backdrop of larger progressive wins. The New York primary sweep is coming soon after democratic socialist mayoral candidates won the primary in Washington, D.C., and made the runoff in Los Angeles.
After the New York results, Mamdani posted a clip of Jalen Brunson firing back at critics during the New York Knicks parade. In the clip, the basketball star berated “people that have a lot of negative stuff to say,” a message that was likely intended as a rebuttal to Democratic Party naysayers.
For Trump, the confrontation wasn’t just about headlines. It was about recognition—who gets credited, who gets ignored, and how quickly the narrative can shift when candidates backed by Mamdani move from primary victories into deeper political territory.
The stakes are immediate: all three of the New York nominees are expected to win in their deep blue districts, which would put three Mamdani allies in Congress by January.

Honestly who cares, it’s just politicians yelling on a platform.
He’s mad he got “zero media attention” but like… maybe it’s because people don’t want to hear the same thing again. Also “Communists”?? I feel like that word gets thrown around for everything now.
Wait so he lost in NY or what? The headline says he rages at coverage but then it sounds like he’s saying he “went 16-0”?? That seems like two different stories. I’m probably missing something but Trump always says he wins, so is it actually about ad space or something?
Truth Social ranting like that proves the whole “fake news” thing is just his script. He’s acting like the city is supposed to clap for him when a bunch of Democrats won their primaries. Plus the article keeps calling them “Communists” and I’m like… aren’t most politicians basically the same though? Anyway, “political earthquake” sounds dramatic for a primary, but whatever.
