Trump Posts News Clip Touting His Success — Apparently Misses Brutal Economic Subheaders

President Donald Trump tried to tout his administration’s successes with a news clip posted to Truth Social Monday while apparently overlooking the decidedly less flattering economic news crawling across the bottom of the screen.
The president shared a nearly seven-minute clip of a recent edition of Cow Guy Close, an economic program hosted by Scott Shellady that airs on RFD-TV. In the clip, Shellady and guest T.J. Wilson, deputy director of rural policy at the America First Policy Institute, celebrate what they describe as falling grocery prices at retailers including Walmart and Piggly Wiggly.
Yet, as MeidasTouch pointed out on X, the ticker running beneath the conversation painted a considerably different picture of the economy.
“The latest Consumer Price Index shows inflation continued to rise in July,” one headline read, while another noted that prices were up 3.4% from a year earlier, with food prices 3% higher and the energy index up 14.7% over the same period.
Another item warned that “borrowing costs and economic uncertainty continue to limit expansion” for small businesses.
The crawl wasn’t entirely focused on the economy. At one point, it also reported that nearly 30,000 pounds of Argentine beef were being recalled after entering U.S. commerce without the required federal reinspection.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s August Food Price Outlook, overall prices were indeed 3.4% higher in July than a year earlier, while food prices were up 3%. Grocery prices, specifically, were 2.7% higher year-over-year, though they were unchanged from June to July.
The USDA has additionally forecast that food prices will rise 3% overall in 2026, with grocery prices expected to increase 2.5%.

The left-leaning outlet was referencing Natalie Harp, Trump’s 35-year-old special assistant who helps manage his social media operation and has been dubbed the “Human Printer” for her habit of quickly printing out favorable news coverage and delivering it to the president.
