Trump Mobile’s PR team quits amid mounting phone controversy

Trump Mobile’s – The Poplar Group, previously representing Trump Mobile, has reportedly stopped working with the company. Its founding partner, Chris Walker, says his team is no longer assisting, leaving unclear who—if anyone—is now handling the phone’s public-facing story.

The story around the T1 phone—better known as the “Trump phone”—keeps spiraling, and now even the messaging has started to fall apart.

The PR team that had been supporting Trump Mobile, the Poplar Group, has reportedly left. Chris Walker, the company’s founding partner, told a publication that his team “is not assisting Trump Mobile any further.”

Walker is also the figure who previously gave a statement to USA Today claiming that T1 phones are made in America. That claim was later found to be false, and Trump Mobile now admits it was not true.

It’s unclear what happens next on the communications front. It’s not known whether Trump Mobile has secured a new PR and media relations firm to replace the Poplar Group. Walker himself didn’t know whether the phone company is currently using a different PR team. adding another layer of uncertainty to a saga that has already included serious credibility problems.

The background to all of this has been messy: concerns about the phone being vaporware. a data leak affecting thousands. and—most recently—a teardown that concluded the phone was a gold-plated. modified version of the HTC U24 Pro. That matters because the job of a PR firm is to steer the story. and the departure suggests the situation may be harder to polish than anyone expected.

A clear pattern emerges from the facts that are now stacking up: claims have collided with findings. and once those gaps became public. even the team tasked with managing them appears to have walked away. For Trump Mobile. the question isn’t just whether the product holds up—it’s who will be trusted to explain it. and what happens when the next headline can’t be spun fast enough.

  1. I’m confused… doesn’t PR just lie for you though? Like if they left, that’s kinda admitting the whole “made in America” thing was garbage. Also the gold-plated HTC thing sounds like a rebranded scam.

  2. So the Poplar Group quit and then nobody knows who’s handling the story, but somehow that means the phone is vaporware? Or does it mean the leak caused it?? I saw a clip that said the phone is being recalled, but this article doesn’t even say that so idk.

  3. Honestly this is what happens when your team keeps promising stuff they can’t back up. First it’s made in America, then it’s not, then the teardown is like “gold-plated HTC U24 Pro” which… ok so it’s basically just a normal phone with paint. And the PR people quit like they got tired of cleaning it up. I don’t care about phones but data leaks are wild, like thousands is a lot, and now they’re still trying to spin it instead of just shutting up.
