Trump memecoin buyers lose $3.8 billion in June analysis

Crypto analytics firm Nansen says nearly 1 million $TRUMP memecoin buyers have collectively lost $3.8 billion, with 988,905 accounts down by the end of June. The token’s price has fallen to $1.69, down nearly 98% from a $75.35 high.

It didn’t take long for the excitement around President Donald Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin to turn into a long, expensive slide. By the end of June, crypto analytics firm Nansen estimated that 988,905 accounts had lost money on the token—nearly 1 million people, collectively down $3.8 billion.

Nansen’s estimate is built from transactions that are publicly visible on the blockchain. The analysis found that around two out of three $TRUMP buyers were in the red as of the end of June, a figure that turns what began as a hype-driven bet into a mass loss story.

The price action tells the same story, but with sharper edges. On Sunday, $TRUMP was trading at $1.69. That was down nearly 98% from its high of $75.35. For buyers who paid into the peak, the drop wasn’t a dip—it was a near-complete reset.

The timing of the launch adds to the pressure. Trump announced the memecoin three days before his inauguration in 2025. He previously co-founded a crypto startup. World Liberty Financial. with his sons. and the $WLFI coin has also declined significantly in value—another reminder that this push into crypto has not been immune to volatility.

Even as prices fell, Trump disclosed that he profited from the token. In a recent financial disclosure, he revealed that he made $636 million from the $TRUMP memecoin. That amount accounts for nearly half of the $1.4 billion that he made from the crypto industry last year.

The regulatory backdrop has been just as consequential as the market itself. Under the Trump administration. the Securities and Exchange Commission said it will not regulate memecoins as securities and has dropped a number of lawsuits against crypto companies. A White House spokesperson told the New York Times. “President Trump proudly made the United States the crypto capital of the world.”.

With so many buyers reporting losses on-chain. the gap between political messaging and personal outcomes is hard to miss—one group watching prices collapse. another side reporting large gains. Nansen’s figures put numbers to the pain. while the token’s chart reflects how quickly enthusiasm can evaporate into damage.
