On Sunday afternoon, President Donald Trump used Truth Social to declare a deal with Iran “now complete” and ordered an immediate shift in the U.S. posture toward one of the world’s most critical waterways.
Trump said the agreement was finished 106 days after the United States launched Operation Epic Fury and, in joint strikes with Israel, killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In a celebratory, tightly worded post, he told ships “of the world” to prepare for a change he framed as immediate.
“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!. I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz. and. simultaneously herewith. authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!. President DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump wrote.
Just 58 minutes later, he walked back part of the timing. In a second post, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz will “fully open on Friday,” following the signing of the deal. He also congratulated himself for achieving what he called “real Peace” in the Middle East.
“This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region. Many presidents have tried to make Peace with Iran, and all have failed before me. The Leaders of the Region have, for the first time, found a President who can help them achieve real Peace. With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday. for purposes of mine removal. oil will flow on both ends again for the Region. and the World!. President DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump posted.
The president had been aiming to sign the deal on Sunday—his 80th birthday—and during an event he is hosting at the White House, the UFC “Freedom 250.” Earlier in the day, that plan looked less certain.
Trump’s anger flared after Israel responded to an attack from Hezbollah in Lebanon. He said the incident put the Iran agreement in jeopardy and directed his frustration at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Why did Bibi have to do a f*cking attack?” Trump told Axios. “I was so pissed off. I let him know. He has no f*cking judgement. I let him know that.”
The Iran deal, for weeks, had been a moving target. Trump had repeatedly said an agreement would be signed soon, including a declaration on May 23 that the deal would be announced “shortly.” From there, the timeline dragged.
One count described around 40 times that Trump said a deal was on the goal line—an assertion that underscored how closely markets and observers had been tracking every hint of movement.
The pressure appeared to mount last week after new strikes on Iran that were described as the largest since a fragile ceasefire began in early April. Trump said those strikes pushed Iran’s theocratic leadership toward seriousness about cutting a deal.
“They’ve taken a pounding,” Trumps said. “They’ve taken a pounding like very few people could take. And they want to make a deal a lot more than I do.”
Trump has also said his central goal with any Iran agreement is to guarantee Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.
For investors, at least, the announcement landed with a visible jolt. When futures markets opened on Sunday night, the Nasdaq, the S&P 500, and the Dow Jones all jumped between 0.66% and 1.38%.
Even as Trump’s posts tried to project finality—declaring the deal “complete” and ordering the blockade removed—his clarification that the Strait will “fully open on Friday” after the signing left a narrow but important window in place. For millions of people who rely on uninterrupted shipping lanes. the difference between “immediate” and “on Friday” is the kind of detail that can matter in the real world. even when the president speaks in absolutes.

So he just lifted a blockade?? Guess everything is fine now lol.
I don’t even get the timeline. 106 days after Epic Fury but then “full open Friday”? Sounds like someone was guessing.
Wait this says they killed Khamenei and then claim real peace? That’s the opposite of peace to me. Also toll free opening means the Navy just disappears right?
Strait of Hormuz “oil will flow” like it’s just a light switch. I’m sure Iran is thrilled 🙄. Next they’ll say inflation is fixed because boats are moving again. Not saying it won’t help, but the whole thing reads like one big victory lap post.
