Trump Declares Iran Ceasefire Done, Strait Reopens

Trump declares – President Donald Trump says a ceasefire deal with Iran is complete and orders the full, unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, ending a U.S. naval blockade in the region—after months of barbs and a violent escalation that followed an earlier U.S. and

President Donald Trump framed the moment like a personal milestone and a regional turning point—an 80th birthday “present” from Iran: an alleged end to fighting in the region and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump announced the deal between the USA and Iran on Truth Social just moments ago, congratulating all sides for “getting it done.” In the same post, he said he is authorizing the full and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and ending the U.S. naval blockade in the region.

Then came the line meant to be felt far beyond Washington. “Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” Trump wrote as he described the change in course.

The push toward this announcement has been anything but smooth. Trump said Iran quickly shut down the strait after the United States and Israel attacked the country back in February—an attack that he claims killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then. the two sides have traded barbs for months. with progress toward a deal described as slow despite Vice President J.D. Vance’s past trip to Pakistan.

Just days before Trump’s announcement, he ordered a retaliatory strike against Iran after Iran took down a U.S. Army Apache helicopter. At that point, a peace agreement appeared farther away than ever.

The sequence now leaves one pressing question hanging over the Strait of Hormuz: what remains for the USA and Iran to codify the agreement if the ceasefire is already complete? For Trump, the answer is simple—if he’s right, peace is within sight.

  1. Not gonna lie, “peace is within sight” sounds like a campaign line. If Iran shut it down after the attacks in February then how is it suddenly “complete”? Feels like they’re just moving the chess pieces.

  2. Wait, I thought there was a blockade already, so does this mean shipping is back to normal or is it still blocked just not the US kind of blockade? Also the Khamenei thing… I saw a clip that said he died, but idk. Half this stuff online is bait.

  3. Truth Social again like that’s an official treaty lol. “Start your engines” sounds like he’s talking to oil tankers, not negotiators. And if Iran shut the strait down after “the attacks,” doesn’t that mean the deal is kinda fake until they sign something? I’m confused, and honestly I’m mad we’re trusting this after the helicopter strike.
