According to multiple attendees. voices rose and tempers ran high during a private sit-down between President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans—less than a day after Trump abruptly canceled a ceremony to sign a landmark housing affordability legislation.
Before the meeting, Trump told lawmakers the SAVE America Act is more important than the bipartisan housing bill. The Senate session quickly became a flashpoint for divisions inside the GOP. with attendees pointing to clashes over two topics: the Iran war and a major election reform bill called the SAVE America Act.
Afterward, Trump told reporters their discussion went “great.” Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Louisiana, described a very different tone inside the room, saying he lost his temper with the president over the Iran war.
“You have not told the American people what is going on,” Cassidy said he told Trump.
The sequence matters: the day started with Trump canceling a housing milestone, then pivoted to insisting on urgency for the SAVE America Act. In the meeting itself, GOP lawmakers’ priorities—and their patience with how the administration is communicating—appeared to collide.
