Trump claims he saved America at 250th rally

Trump’s “saved – At a June 24 rally on Washington’s National Mall marking America’s 250th anniversary, Donald Trump blasted the previous administration as a “total disaster,” praised his deportation push and anti-transgender policies, and said his team “saved our country.” The

The fighter jets were overhead and a military band played, but the message at the center of President Donald Trump’s June 24 rally on Washington’s National Mall was blunt: under his watch, he said, America is back on track.

Standing at the event tied to the 250th anniversary of America’s founding. Trump told the crowd he “saved our country. ” adding that his administration has “reclaimed our sovereignty. regained our liberty. restored our prosperity.” The speech came in the familiar cadence of a political rally—under 30 minutes long. he criticized the previous administration as a “total disaster. ” and he returned to the themes that have defined his rallies for years.

The setting carried pageantry. People gathered near the Reflecting Pool and in the shadow of the Washington Monument. sitting on blankets and plastic chairs in balmy summer weather. Many wore red, white, and blue and waved small American flags. Among the guests were House Speaker Mike Johnson. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. and FBI Director Kash Patel. Patel’s girlfriend, Alexis Wilkins, sang the national anthem.

Music and spectacle were part of the draw—though the lineup itself has become part of the story.

Trump used the rally to press his immigration message. praising Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol agents “who have helped liberate America. ” as he touted an immigration agenda that has provoked intense backlash. He also highlighted a military operation in Iran that has proven deeply unpopular.

In remarks that veered into race and gender issues. Trump touted anti-transgender policies. including the administration’s move to ban transgender individuals from women’s sports and its targeting of gender-affirming care. He also pointed to a federal government ban on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. While he avoided directly criticizing Democrats—whom he has lately taken to calling “Dumacrats”—he took multiple jabs at former President Joe Biden. saying he “inherited a mess” and describing Biden’s tenure as a “total disaster.”.

The rally was staged as a kickoff for the Great American State Fair. replacing a concert series that fell apart when multiple musicians canceled after concerns about politics. Trump framed the event as the “Rally to end all Rallies. ” but it drew a modest crowd compared with the size of many rallies he has staged in the past.

The logistical and political friction around the festivities has spread beyond the stage.

Freedom 250—created by Trump as a public-private partnership—has been operating alongside the America250 commission. Congress established the America250 commission to plan anniversary events, but Trump created Freedom 250 to stage events outside the official commission. Freedom 250 organized the Great American State Fair and the concert series, and performers dropped out after the lineup was announced.

Some of the cancellations did not stay quiet. Bret Michaels. formerly of the band Poison. wrote on social media: “Unfortunately. what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of.” Rapper Young MC called the Freedom 250 event “politically charged” when announcing he wouldn’t participate.

The controversy has also become a broader political test for the anniversary itself. The rally came amid concerns that the celebrations have become “divisive” and “politically charged.” At least seven states announced they aren’t participating in the Great American State Fair. Most are run by Democratic governors who cited budget constraints. but a spokesman for Washington’s governor pointed to perceived partisanship.

Inside the fair and outside it, the administration’s broader second-term footprint is hard to miss.

During the rally, Trump touted “drill baby drill” energy policies and tax cuts. He also tied his message to a series of controversial DC renovation projects he called “monuments to American greatness. ” including a new White House ballroom. a triumphal arch near the National Mall. and renovations to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Historic preservation groups have criticized the projects and filed lawsuits. but Trump has defended them to rallygoers as legacy-building work meant to last for generations. He compared the effort to the builders of earlier eras. saying: “The great civilizations of history did not wallow in aging ruins of the past.” He continued. “They built new cities. they created new monuments. and they forged towering legacies that still inspire the world after hundreds and even thousands of years.”.

The Reflecting Pool has drawn particular attention since the renovations, with algae blooms and peeling paint reported after Trump’s makeover. The president continued to blame vandals without supplying evidence.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also weighed in on the musical controversy, blasting the singers who canceled as “libtards,” a combination of the word liberal and a slur for mentally disabled people—adding another flashpoint to a day already shaped by political division.

Trump’s June 24 remarks landed in a wider pattern of how he has sought to occupy the 250th anniversary spotlight. His rally was another example of him putting his stamp on the celebrations and thrusting himself into their center. He hosted an Ultimate Fighting Championship contest at the White House on June 14 and is planning another rally on the National Mall on July 4.

For many in the crowd, the message on the Mall was clear. For others watching from the sidelines—states, performers, and critics—the same anniversary that was supposed to unite the country is increasingly being experienced as a stage for politics.

  1. So he saved America in like 30 minutes? I mean I’m sure it’s more complicated than that. Deportations and anti-trans stuff is not “prosperity” to everybody, just saying.

  2. I think the whole point was the military band and fighter jets, like they were trying to scare people into believing him. Also didn’t the previous administration already have a bunch of sovereignty stuff? Feels like he’s just rebranding the same talking points.

  3. “Saved our country” is such a wild flex lol. Like what metric are we using? If it was really saved, why is everyone still arguing about deportations and the trans policies like every week. And the fact it was on the National Mall for the 250th… I get it’s symbolic but also it’s still politics doing politics. I watched like 5 minutes and it was basically just attacks and slogans.
