Trump calls Kristen Welker “crooked” or “stupid,” ends

Trump ends – An interview that began with Iran, war, and the economy on NBC’s “Meet the Press” deteriorated into direct personal attacks. President Donald Trump told NBC’s Kristen Welker she was either “crooked” or “stupid,” accused the network of being “crooked” and “one-
Sunday’s interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” started out like a standard campaign-against-the-news exchange: Donald Trump talking about Iran, war, and the economy, Kristen Welker pressing for specifics. It didn’t take long for the rhythm to change.
Over the course of the broadcast, the clashes between Trump and Welker didn’t ignite all at once. They built. segment by segment. as Welker challenged Trump’s election claims. his account of what happened around the January 6 attack. and allegations of misconduct by federal officials. Again and again. she pushed him to back up his assertions with evidence—and again and again. the conversation veered toward what Trump said the country was being denied.
At multiple points, Welker told the president there was “no evidence” to support some of the allegations he was making. Trump responded by dismissing her objections, attacking the network, and widening the argument into a broader critique of what he described as a dishonest national press.
The interview’s temperature rose further during a discussion of election integrity and a proposed “anti-weaponization” compensation fund for people he says were victims of government “weaponization.” When Welker challenged Trump’s claims that elections in places such as California were being “rigged. ” Trump turned on NBC—and on her.
In one of the most combative moments, Trump looked at Welker and delivered the line that would come to define the segment. “You’re either crooked or you’re stupid,” he told her.
Trump then escalated his critique beyond the moderator. He accused NBC of being a “crooked” and “one-sided” network. insisted that journalists were ignoring evidence that supported his claims. and argued that the media was contributing to the country’s problems. Before the interview ended, he said to Welker, “You want to straighten out your press.”.
By the conclusion of the exchange, the headline wasn’t really about Iran, the economy, or the proposed compensation fund. It was about the interview itself—and how quickly it collapsed into accusations and personal insults once Welker pressed for proof.
The fight also carried the weight of history. The tense interview adds to a long pattern of confrontations between Trump and television journalists when interviewers challenge his claims in real time. The account of the broadcast points to earlier documented incidents in which Trump resorted to personal insults when pressured on disputed statements.
There was also an added layer of disruption around the production. NBC traveled to Wisconsin for the interview, and it faced interruptions caused by rain and technical issues. Even with those delays. the conversation ran for an extended period before finally breaking down as the accusations sharpened and disputes over basic facts intensified.
The exchange underscored a clash that has become familiar in Washington: Trump’s preferred method of communication—direct messaging through rallies. social media and Truth Social—running into the reality of traditional broadcast interviews. where political leaders are placed in extended. unscripted conversations with journalists.
For Welker, the job was simple: challenge claims, request evidence, and ask follow-ups. For Trump, the line between answering and attacking kept eroding—until he ended the interview with the conversation stranded in the middle of its most basic disagreement: whether the evidence exists.

Dang he really said that on TV?
I didn’t even watch but I saw the clip where he called her crooked or stupid and like… that’s so unhinged. If the questions were bad then fine, but insulting the person always feels like a dodge.
So he was talking about Iran and the economy and then it turned into him roasting the host? That’s basically what all interviews turn into now though, they don’t wanna ask anything real. Also doesn’t he always say there’s no evidence for the other side? Like, everyone says “no evidence” lol.
Meet the Press used to be respectable but now it’s like a WWE match. Calling someone crooked OR stupid is crazy, but also I feel like she kept pushing election stuff and he probably got fed up. The “anti-weaponization compensation fund” thing sounds made up to me, like how is that even a thing? I dunno, I’m just tired of both sides acting like the other one is lying 24/7.
