LSU lands Brennen Lacey as Kiffin starts fast

LSU picked up another recruiting win on Sunday with running back Brennen Lacey committing to the Tigers. The pledge comes ahead of Lane Kiffin’s first season as head coach and follows multiple additions that are already reshaping LSU’s 2027 class.
Sunday brought another jolt of momentum to LSU’s rebuilding push—this time through the commitment of running back Brennen Lacey. With Lane Kiffin preparing for his first season as head coach. LSU keeps adding names to the Class of 2027. and Lacey’s pledge keeps the recruiting trail moving in the right direction for the Tigers.
Lacey announced he was joining LSU, saying, “Trust God, trust the process and keep grinding,” after making his decision. The Class of 2027 running back is listed as a three-star recruit. per Rivals. and he plays his high school football in the state of Texas. LSU was not the only option on the table; Lacey held offers from Notre Dame, Florida, and Miami.
He recently visited LSU, and he made the case for why the fit clicked. “They see something in me,” Lacey told Rivals. “And Coach Kevin (Smith) wants to extract that talent out and dominate. He’s big on developing and I believe that he can develop me.”
Lacey is not the only commitment LSU landed on Sunday. He joined four-star edge KJ Green, who also committed to the Tigers on Sunday. Together, the additions underline how aggressively LSU is pursuing talent for the 2027 cycle.
LSU’s coaching staff is driving that pitch with a clear message about development and expectations. Kiffin is about to begin his first season with the Tigers after replacing Brian Kelly. Before arriving at LSU. Kiffin built a résumé that includes time at Ole Miss. where he led that program to the College Football Playoff in 2025. and earlier stops as head coach at USC. Tennessee. and Florida Atlantic. He also spent time as an assistant under Nick Saban at Alabama and has even had an NFL stint. briefly coaching the Oakland Raiders.
Even with the new chapter in Baton Rouge still just weeks away. the recruiting focus is already firmly on landing top-tier prospects. ESPN reported that the program continues to pursue a collection of blue-chip recruits in the 2027 cycle, including No. 1 wide receiver Easton Royal (a Texas commit) and fellow five-stars Caden Moss (No. 13) and Xavier Sabb (No. 18).
Kiffin understands the clock is ticking. His first game as LSU’s head coach is scheduled for September 5, when LSU faces off against Clemson.
