Trader Joe’s adds nine stores as expansion accelerates

Trader Joe’s says it will open nine new stores across eight states, adding to an earlier plan for 18 new locations announced in April. The company did not list opening dates, but confirmed addresses in Phoenix, Sarasota, Chicago, Quincy, Farmington Hills, Syra

A Trader Joe’s store could be getting closer to your daily routine. On Wednesday, the grocer announced it would open nine new stores across the U.S., building on the previous batch of 18 new stores it announced in April.

The newest wave of locations will be spread across eight states, including Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Utah. Trader Joe’s did not provide dates for the planned openings, but it confirmed where the new stores will be.

In Arizona, the company listed Phoenix at 21001 North Tatum Boulevard, Suite 1030. In Florida, the new store will be in Sarasota at 8199 S Tamiami Trail, Unit 100.

Illinois’ addition is in Chicago at 804 West Montrose Ave. Massachusetts will welcome a store in Quincy at 111 General McConville Way.

Michigan’s new location is in Farmington Hills at 27658 Middlebelt Rd. New York is getting two stores: Syracuse at 3515 West Genesee St. and Yonkers at 2482 Central Park Ave.

Ohio’s new Trader Joe’s is planned for University Heights at 2643 Warrensville Center Rd. Utah will round out the list with a store in West Jordan at 5561 W 7800 S.

Last month’s expansion plan already showed how broad the buildout is becoming. Trader Joe’s announced it would open 18 new stores across 12 states, including locations in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

This expansion isn’t entirely new for the company. In 2025, Trader Joe’s opened around 30 new stores, bringing its total number of locations to more than 600. This year, the chain has already announced 25 new locations.

Even with that momentum, the map still has gaps. Trader Joe’s stores haven’t yet made their way to Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia, or Wyoming.

About one-third of the company’s stores are in its home state of California—meaning the latest announcements widen the footprint beyond familiar territory, even as the brand continues to grow from a strong base.

  1. So they’re opening in Quincy, but not like… all the way in Quincy? I’m confused. Like which Quincy, there’s multiple states and stuff. Either way I’m excited I guess.

  2. Reply to Mark Stevenson — yeah and also they didn’t say when so how is this “accelerates.” Feels like marketing. Also I swear I saw somewhere they already opened one of these addresses, like 8199 S Tamiami Trail or whatever, but maybe it was another store.

  3. Wait they’re adding 9 more stores but still missing half the map? Like why wouldn’t they just go to the places that need it, not just “gaps” in some chart. I drive through West Virginia and I’m still stuck with the same depressing grocery options.
