Touchscreen MacBook Pro sticks with M5 at launch

touchscreen MacBook – Apple’s first touch MacBook Pro with OLED is expected to launch with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, not M6. A later wave with M7 Pro and M7 Max is said to be in advanced testing for late 2027, alongside a planned Mac Studio powered by M7 Max and M7 Ultra in 202

The countdown for Apple’s next MacBook Pro redesign is still on. but the chip roadmap has hit a speed bump. A new report claims the company will not upgrade the processors for its expected touch MacBook Pro right out of the gate. Instead of debuting with an M6, the first model would “stay with the present M5 generation.”.

The touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected to arrive with a brand-new look, even if its processor doesn’t follow the newest expected step. This would be Apple’s first visible redesign of the high-end MacBook Pro since the current form launched in 2021.

Bloomberg’s reporting says the first touch MacBook Pro model will use the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. Two new versions are described as 14-inch and 16-inch models. with codename K114 and K116. previously expected toward the end of 2026. The same report now hedges the timing. saying they will launch between late 2026 and early 2027. a shift some earlier predictions linked to a global chip shortage.

The design changes, at least, aren’t waiting for later silicon. The report says this touchscreen MacBook Pro will add an iPhone-style Dynamic Island and include a touch screen. That combination pushes back against earlier rumors that the overall look would remain the same. In other words, buyers may get a visibly different machine sooner than the processor upgrade they were hoping for.

The bigger tension is what comes next. The same report says Apple is planning an update to these touchscreen MacBook Pro models with M7 Pro and M7 Max processors. Those versions are reportedly in advanced testing and may launch at the end of 2027.

Chip choices aren’t just about raw performance, either. The benefit of the M7 design is said to be acceleration for AI models, including neural accelerators, expanded memory bandwidth, and improved graphics performance.

Apple’s “next wave” of Macs doesn’t stop at laptops. The report also says Apple is planning a Mac Studio that uses the M7 Max and M7 Ultra processors, with that model now predicted to launch in 2028.

There’s also a manufacturing question attached to the M7 line. It’s previously been reported that Intel may be used to manufacture the M7 processor, described as the lower end model—separate from M7 Pro, M7 Max, or M7 Ultra.

With the first touch MacBook Pro reportedly arriving on M5 Pro and M5 Max, the message is clear: the redesign and touchscreen experience are moving ahead on schedule, while the newest AI-focused silicon gets pushed into the following release window.

  1. I don’t get why they’d delay the “new chip” but still change the design. Like, is it worth it if it’s not even M6? Apple just be doing Apple things.

  2. Dynamic Island on a MacBook?? That sounds like a downgrade already. Also touching the screen sounds cool until it’s fingerprints forever. I swear they make these choices based on whatever rumor is trending that week.

  3. Late 2026 / early 2027 for the touchscreen one with M5… that’s basically forever in Apple time. And M7 in 2027 too, plus a Mac Studio in 2028? At this point I think they’re just waiting for Intel to finish making the chip or something, because why else would they “not upgrade” right away. Also touch Mac + OLED + AI acceleration sounds great but I bet it’ll still be overpriced and then they’ll say it’s “the future” or whatever.
