Titans lock up Jeffery Simmons with multi-year extension

Titans lock – Jeffery Simmons and the Tennessee Titans have reached a multi-year contract extension, keeping their defensive cornerstone in Nashville for years. Simmons—already a four-time Pro Bowl selection, five-time captain, and a three-time Titans Community Man of the Y

NASHVILLE — Jeffery Simmons didn’t wait for a new season to deliver the next message. On Friday, the Titans and the defensive tackle reached a deal on a multi-year contract extension, keeping “Big Jeff” in the middle of the roster and the center of a community he has helped represent for years.

Simmons framed the decision in personal terms. saying Tennessee has become “a second home.” He credited the organization for believing in him “from day one. ” and thanked God. his family. his teammates. Ms. Amy, and the Titans organization. He also made it clear the work isn’t done: “My job isn’t finished. I believe in this locker room and this staff. and I’m focused on helping this team get back to competing for championships.”.

For Tennessee, the agreement keeps its best defensive player and one of its most visible community leaders in place for the long haul.

Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi called Simmons “a pillar for our franchise. ” saying he “embodies what it means to be a Titan.” Borgonzi added that Simmons is “the premier defensive tackle in the National Football League. ” and that “you win with players like Jeffery.” He also tied the contract to leadership beyond the field. saying Simmons sets the standard for the community.

Borgonzi thanked specific people for the communication and negotiations that led to the deal. naming Todd France and AJ Stevens with Athletes First. He also thanked Vin Marino, Leland Taylor, and Dave Gardi for spearheading negotiations. Borgonzi closed by pointing to family and support behind the scenes. saying the outcome was made possible with the support of Amy and the Adams family. and that the team “accomplished” its goal of keeping its best players.

Simmons enters the extension after a 2025 season that sharpened his status as a franchise centerpiece. He recorded a career-high 11 sacks in 2025. That same year, he posted 60 quarterback pressures, 67 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, and three forced fumbles.

The Titans’ defensive tackle also broke a franchise mark last season. In 2025, Simmons surpassed Jurrell Casey’s 10.5-sack mark from 2013 for the most sacks in a season by a Titans defensive tackle in the franchise’s “Titans era” (1999 to present).

His accolades kept pace with the production. Simmons was named first-team All-Pro in 2025 after being named second team All-Pro in 2021 and 2022. With honors like that come reputations. and the numbers match the reputation: over the last 10 seasons from 2016 to 2025. Simmons and Aaron Donald (2021) are the only NFL defensive tackles to reach at least 10 sacks. 16 tackles for a loss. three forced fumbles. and three passes defensed in a single season.

Consistency has been its own story. With at least five sacks every season from 2021 to 2025. Simmons joined Ray Childress (nine consecutive seasons). Casey (seven). William Fuller (six). and Sean Jones (six) as the only players in club history to record five consecutive seasons with at least five sacks since individual sacks became an official statistic in 1982.

The contract extension also continues a trend of recognized elite performance. Simmons is a four-time Pro Bowl selection and a five-time captain. and he has been named the Titans’ Community Man of the Year three times. He has spent seven NFL seasons in total since being selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Over those seven seasons, Simmons has recorded 383 tackles, 42.5 sacks, 275 quarterback pressures, and 65 tackles for a loss. He has also caught two touchdowns in his NFL career. The extension arrives after he also received a contract extension during the 2023 offseason.

In the community, Simmons’ presence is not limited to public appearances. He was named the team’s nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which recognizes a player for outstanding community service as well as excellence on the field.

By Friday, the message was simple: the Titans are betting on Simmons to keep carrying both the defense and the standard they want to see in Nashville. And for Simmons, the celebration doesn’t end with the contract.

He said his focus is on helping the team return to competing for championships—because, in his words, “My job isn’t finished.”

  1. I didn’t realize he was already captain like 5 times lol. If they keep their best guy then maybe they’ll finally stop choking in the playoffs. Also “second home” stuff is always wholesome.

  2. So they extended him but like… does that mean he’s not gonna get traded? I heard Simmons might’ve been leaving but I guess not. The Titans management thanking random names makes it feel like a big PR thing. Still, defensive tackle sounds like the kind of player you pay.

  3. Every year it’s “premier” “pillar” “embodies” blah blah and then the Titans still can’t win it all. Don’t get me wrong I like Jeffery Simmons, but they’re acting like this automatically gets them championships. Also the article says “Titans Community Man of the Y NASHVILLE” which… what is that? Like a typo but also my brain keeps stopping on it.
