Timberwolves jersey leak delights fans—Sezzle patch stings

Minnesota Timberwolves fans got an early look at next season’s jersey rebrand this weekend—right up until the one detail that couldn’t be unseen.
The team had been preparing the new look for an early-June rollout, but images leaked after the design was accidentally posted on the Timberwolves website. The pictures were pulled once the mistake was realized, yet not before fans saved them and kept circulating the rebrand across social media.
Reaction was largely positive, especially because the rebrand isn’t trying to reinvent the franchise—it’s reaching back. The jersey design is a callback to the Timberwolves’ original uniforms from their inaugural season in 1989. The Wolves wore those blue-and-white jerseys with green trim from 1989 to 1996.
The rebrand jerseys also appear to blend some of the updated black into the design, while still steering the look toward the classic era. That mix has plenty of fans excited about a season that’s already carrying its own emotional spotlight: the organization is set to retire Kevin Garnett’s jersey.
Garnett’s connection to the franchise runs through history. The No. 5 overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft, he wore the first Timberwolves jersey design—meaning the team’s trip back to those uniforms lands at an especially meaningful moment.
The current jersey iteration was first introduced in 2023, but the leaked rebrand images offered something different—until they didn’t. One sponsor element became the exception to the celebration: fans didn’t take a liking to the giant ‘Sezzle’ patch appearing on the left shoulder of the jerseys.
It’s possible the leaked images were only preliminary and not the final products. But based on what fans were able to see, that patch looks hard to ignore—and it’s the one feature that turned a mostly positive leak into a debate.

So they accidentally uploaded jerseys and then Sezzle shows up… like why lol
I don’t even get why people are mad. The blue and green 1989 vibe is cool, but that giant Sezzle patch is just embarrassing. Like the whole jersey is fine and then it’s ruined by an app sticker.
Wait, isn’t Sezzle like the thing kids use to buy stuff now? Seems kinda wild they’re slapping it right on the shoulder for a tribute jersey. Also I saw something about Kevin Garnett’s number retirement, and I’m like… does this patch mean he’s getting sponsored too?? probably not but still.
They “leaked” it and fans loved it until the Sezzle patch. Idk I feel like it’s always been sponsor branding, the only reason it’s a debate is bc people already got the pic early. Also how do we know it wasn’t fake? Like those site uploads happen all the time, could’ve been a test mockup. Either way, I just want the Garnett retirement night to feel special and not like a QR code commercial.
