The Rainmaker Season 2 Adds New Faces, New Stakes

USA Network’s legal drama The Rainmaker is heading into Season 2 with two new cast additions—Libby Kay as Megan Grenier and Liam O’Halloran as Boone McCready—while the series gears up for a far more brutal case for Rudy Baylor, Bruiser, and Deck.

By the time Rudy Baylor realizes the courtroom fight isn’t just about winning, it’s already too late—the conspiracy is already in motion, and the fallout lands with a different kind of weight.

That’s the setup as The Rainmaker moves toward Season 2 on USA Network. with a pair of new characters stepping into a story that already promises to get messier. Libby Kay will play Megan Grenier, described as a “razor sharp” assistant to ruthless attorney Amanda Vonn. Liam O’Halloran is set to appear as Boone McCready. a rising baseball pitcher connected to Tom Cassidy. the ex-husband of Lana Parrilla’s Bruiser.

The series follows Rudy Baylor, a newly qualified lawyer who finds himself taking on powerful courtroom figure Leo Drummond. Alongside Bruiser and P. J. Byrne’s chaotic paralegal Deck, Rudy uncovers a pair of conspiracies tied to the mysterious death of a client’s son.

Season 2 pushes the pressure further. The trio take on a case involving hundreds of children, where even winning could come at a serious cost.

That escalation is arriving for a show that has already proven it can land with audiences. The Rainmaker became USA Network’s most watched freshman series in seven years, averaging 1.3 million total viewers. The finale was also the season’s most-watched episode—enough for USA to renew the series for Season 2.

Still, the reception has been more complicated than the numbers. Critically, it’s been a mixed bag, sitting around 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and 53 on Metacritic—far from a prestige breakout, even as it becomes a reliable commercial win for scripted drama.

At the center of it all. the season’s core cast remains anchored by Milo Callaghan as Rudy Baylor. John Slattery as Leo Drummond. Lana Parrilla as Bruiser. P. J. Byrne as Deck, Madison Iseman as Sarah, Merle Dandridge as Amanda Vonn, Karen Bryson, and Austin Nichols. Behind the scenes. the series comes from Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television. with Michael Seitzman serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside Grisham. Patrick Moran. Jason Richman. David Gernert. and Jason Blum.

Season 2 has no release date yet, and for now the only certainty is that the next case won’t be another courtroom sprint—it’s a deeper plunge into the kind of stakes where “winning” is the question, not the answer.

  1. I didn’t even realize it was getting renewed, thought USA canceled everything lol. Also “hundreds of children”?? That sounds like they’re gonna make it unbearable.

  2. Boone McCready sounds like that random baseball guy from something else… is he like the lawyer’s brother or something? And why is the ex-husband of Bruiser a pitcher? This show makes zero sense but I’ll still watch.

  3. Rotten Tomatoes 50% and Metacritic 53 doesn’t feel great, but the article says it’s the most watched in 7 years so like which is it? Critics don’t get it? Either way I’m only here for Rudy and Deck, the conspiracy about the client’s son death feels like it’s been dragged out.
