The next year Call of Duty will introduce a new sub-series to replace Black Ops and Modern Warfare

Publisher Activision is officially preparing the shooter for release. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, scheduled to launch on October 23rd, will be the twenty-third installment in the main franchise and a direct sequel to the subseries from Infinity Ward. A full presentation of the gameplay and online modes will take place at the COD Next livestream event, scheduled for August 21st. Digital pre-orders will receive early access to open beta benchmarking immediately after the livestream.

The story-driven campaign will take players to the epicenter of a full-scale military conflict on the Korean Peninsula, as well as to locations in New York, Paris, and Mumbai. The project features new shooting physics technology that eliminates mechanical hip fire, an improved parkour system, and a full skill tree for operators. The game is being released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, with versions for previous-generation consoles completely excluded from development.

In addition to the release plans for this year, insiders are reporting a major restructuring of the franchise going forward. The next game in the series, scheduled for 2027, will completely abandon the familiar Black Ops and Modern Warfare brands in favor of an entirely new lineup. This unannounced project is being developed with the hardware capabilities of the next generation of consoles in mind and could be part of the PlayStation 6 launch lineup, setting a new technological standard for first-person shooters.
